In this paper I examine traces of radiophobia in gossips as a manifestation of culture in the shadow of an atomic bomb. This study aims to recognize main social functions of this kind of folktales. The field of research is narrowed down mainly to folktales disseminated in Poland. The methods employed during an investigation include an analysis of narratives published in the Internet and newspaper news. The study shows that some of these gossips provide both simplified records of past experience of humanity in the field of nuclear energy, and certain guidelines helping to cope with basic risks involved.

This text deals with gossip in basic schools. Once clarified various forms of gossip and rumours, the author describes the outcome of an empirical research with expert teachers. The results are based on a research of experienced teachers, using the qualitative approach and the narrative and biographical designs. The study primarily comments on how gossip can influence the expert teacher’s work and his/her identity and position within the school. As such, school gossip is not considered as a random phenomenon but rather a micro-political strategy used by teachers to gain influence and protection.

The essay shows the main conceptions upon a biological power of a word: the macchiavellian theory/ theory of a lie, the mating mind theory, that means a theory of handicaps, and the social  selection theory  of  S.  Dunbar.  The  author  proposes  a  thesis  that  a  speech  takes  its power from the biological determinants of the origin of a language, and proves it by fusing various contemporary biological concepts. It is a biological evolution that founds the power of words, and also explains the magic of words in the  various types of relations – among society, but also between sexes, generations and finally, among individuals considered in a biological sense.

In the text Sarcasm and Indulgence, there is an analysis of human relations in Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility. The marriage as a fact – and the space for a social game – is here one of the examples of modelling of the connections and their linguistic representation. The gossip is attached to the structure of the novel, in which it penetrates the hidden. The work of Austen refers to two modes of talking, two styles: the private talk and the officialornamental talk. The model of the novel of the author of Sense and Sensibility has been compared here with the one of Stendhal.

The sins of the tongue are present in human life. They are most visible in gossip and slander, although they can also be seen in telling half-truths, lies, slander or excessive speech. The issue is very broad and occurs in every time and place, where people live and have relationships with each other. The Holy Father Francis exposes, above all, gossip and slander. Delving into his homilies delivered at the House of Saint Martha, you can see how he shows these sins in the context of considering God's Word during the celebration of the daily Eucharist. The purpose of this article is to show how great a spiritual threat sins of the tongue pose. Pope Francis makes strong comparisons just to show how much the sins of language negatively impact interpersonal communication. The article shows how the Pope's teaching corresponds to the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

The main aim of the text is to discuss a conception of conspiracy theory as narration which draw a parallel with gossip and urban legend as far as its features and functions are concerned. The author chooses the example of the false flag operation which concerns September 11 attacks and describes it as a unique category of myth which legitimizes actions taken by – for instance – the ruling class. The author builds her conceptual frame on the Malinowski’s theory of myth and its function – she tries to prove that it can be still valid in contemporary anthropology.
