The goal of this paper is to present action research on the collapsed relations between the Roma minority and the majority population in a single location. The topic of this research emerged as the result of a request from organizations operating in socially deprived areas where the inhabitants anticipated that they might become the target of retaliatory attacks by extremists. Local organizations, along with the police and other institutions, were unable to prevent the resulting spread of panic; the goal of the qualitative research was, therefore, to uncover the mechanism through which panic emerges and spreads, and offer suggestions on how to prevent similar events in the future. The paper presents a reflexive methodology and the initial convictions of the researcher.

This paper is a an anthropological and methodological impression about the production of a cultural knowledge grounded in the different types of a visual data. The purpose of this paper is to highlight a potential of image-based methods for carrying out research into some hidden dimension of immigrant experience connected with visual perception. This paper explores the imaged-based methods as crucial in understanding how immigrants are framing as „others” and on the other way, how immigrants compare their cultural knowledge with different cultural backgrounds.

Contemporary political science is multiparadigmatic and pluralistic. Therefore, political scientist use various methodological approaches, methodologies, research methods and techniques and refer to various scientific assumptions. This text follows that understanding of the political science. It presents two varieties of the grounded theory, which can be used for research by followers of the interpretivist paradigm but also by the followers of the positivist one. The purpose of this article is also to show the fields use of thought grounded theory, in other words that the paths leading to enriching the knowledge about politics.

The text presents an analysis of the theoretical foundations of the book by Marta Kurkowska-Budzan and Marcin Stasiak "Stadium on the periphery". The use of elements of well-established theory in the design of the indicated research is discussed in detail and - at a later stage - in building a specific historical narrative. The values of binding the theory of social sciences to the interpretation practice of modern historiography are emphasized.

The article introduces disabled University Students research conducted with the use of grounded theory strategy. The author with the help of metaphors released skirmish that may occur for a young researcher who uses grounded theory. The aim of the paper is a thesis that the application of this strategy requires from the researcher not only a knowledge of procedures, discipline and extensive knowledge but also, and perhaps above all, subtle reflectivity. It was explained also the relationship between the two areas (Grounded Theory and battle metaphor). Then, the author points to the skirmishes that happened to her in the research of students with disabilities in accordance to the strategy of grounded theory. They can occur, however, in any other areas of young researcher. The final conclusion of the use of skirmish metaphors, which was used in relation to the examination procedure, may be used to descriptions of the area under consideration as well.

Przesądziło to o przynależności przedmiotu analizy do pola badawczego politologii. Analiza porównawcza kodów i kategorii doprowadziła jednak do wygenerowania jeszcze innego tropu interpretacyjnego, związanego z utożsamieniem wolności z alienacją. „Swoboda” uległa, tym samym, problematyzacji.

This article aims to demonstrate the applicability of grounded theory in the analysis of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk in terms of political science. The fundamental question is how to examine the sources which exhibit the ideological character of the space of public museums? In order to answer this question, the concepts by Kathy Charmaz and Adela Clarke are referred to, which have been noticed to offer unused potential for qualitative research conducted in the field of political science. This meant departing from the “classical” versions of grounded theory, created by Barney G. Glaser and Anselm L. Strauss, in favor of what is called “a postmodern turn,” and approaches which synthesize constructivism and social constructionism. Data obtained from primary and secondary sources concerning the main axis of the core exhibition were analyzed. The starting point was my own field research, the results of which were compared with the data from an interview with the museum’s architects and the transcription of a photograph. Inspired by procedures compliant with the non-classical versions of grounded theory, it was demonstrated that the main axis of the core exhibition was designed as a liberal manifesto of freedom. This determined the subject of analysis to be a part of the research field of political science. The spatial solutions applied testified to their designers’ intention to provide visitors with freedom of movement and assembly. They were considered as conceptual categories, related to the absence of a dedicated sightseeing route and the vastness of the space left for visitors. A comparative analysis of codes and categories, however, made it possible to identify yet another interpretative trope, related to the identification of freedom with alienation. In this way, “liberty” has become problematized.

This article presents an empirically generated typology of weblog genres based on the analysis of 322 popular Polish blogs. The analysis was informed by Carolyn Miller’s (1994) concept of genre as social action and was focused on three aspects: (1) subject of utterance or exigence; (2) author and communication; (3) genre coherence. Following genres are proposed and discussed: criticism, advice, diaries, modelling, reflection, information, filter, and fictionality.

The goal of this study is to explore the components of defence strategies faced by society in its information environment, and how these strategies are inter-related. This qualitative in-depth case study applied past research and empirical evidence to identify the components of defence strategies in a society’s information environment. The data collected was analysed using the Grounded Theory approach and a conceptual framework with the components of defence strategies and the relationships between these components was developed using the Grounded Theory. This study shows that the goal of politically and militarily hostile actors is to weaken society’s information environment, and that their operations are coordinated and carried out over a long time period. The data validates past studies and reveals relationships between the components of defence strategies. These relationships increase confidence in the validity of these components and their relationships, and expand the emerging theory. First, the data and findings showed 16 inter-connected components of defence strategies. Second, they showed that the political, military, societal, power, and personal goals of the hostile actors carrying out cyber operations and cyber attacks are to weaken society’s information environment. Third, they revealed that cyber operations and cyber attacks against networks, information and infrastructures are coordinated operations, carried out over a long time period. Finally, it was revealed that the actors defending society’s information environment must rapidly change their own components of defence strategies and use the newest tools and methods for these components in networks, infrastructures and social media.

This article locates itself within the field of social studies with a special focus on the borderline of sociology and psychology. It attempts to analyze the patterns of social behavior of men in psychotherapy and answer the question as to what extent the problems affecting the mental health of men reflect certain constructions of gender that function in modern society. The empirical basis of the article is data obtained during in-depth interviews with psychotherapists. This data was analyzed in accordance with the rules of the Grounded Theory Method. The research shows that gender is a category commonly used in summaries and interpretations of experiences of individuals. The analysis of the research material makes it possible to identify the most important problems of mental health of men, and to deduce directions and mechanisms of changes in men gender schemes in contemporary society. On the basis of the results of the study recommendations for further research in this field and for therapeutic work with men have been formulated.

This paper aims to describe the concept of fractal marketing as a set of typical, schematic and repetitive market activities taken by companies in the area of: pricing, promotion, product features and distribution. The knowledge has been recited like a mantra to college students over the recent years, regardless of the social, economic, political and economic changes taking place in the business environment. However, the new generation does not expect goods producers to run catchy commercials on TV or the radio, but to present reliable and trustworthy information about their products. Therefore, the new form of marketing was named post-marketing and it is proposed that it should be included in the curricula of business management departments as an obligatory subject. This article presents the possibilities of applying the consolidated theory for the purposes of developing ways of increasing the effectiveness of marketing activities, and the presented scope of research may be implemented in other areas where there is a need for unconventional ways of processing data coming from various fields in order to obtain information that will help managers to take the right decisions. Such knowledge may also contribute to increasing the attractiveness of studies in business management departments in various universities.

The purpose of this article is to describe the perception of time by men and women in managerial positions in business organizations (and the specific actions resulting from that perception). The differences and similarities in perceiving time by representatives of the two sexes were reconstructed on the basis of nearly fifty narrative interviews conducted within the framework of two projects: ’The Temporal Aspect of Managerial Careers’ (concluded in 2005) and the ongoing ’Spatial Aspect of Managerial Careers’. In the context of the titular gender perspective, what is noteworthy is the vision of their careers that organizational actors’ declare and realize, in that they perceive them, despite the contradictions resulting from the gender difference, as being planned and realized through persistence.Key categories describing this type of attitude are those of the ’self-made man’ and ’self-made woman’. Differences in ways of realizing the ideal of the inner-directed manager, which are the effect of a culturally conditioned perception of the role that men and women ’should’ fill, are also important. Analysis of the data collected was conducted on the basis of grounded theory methodology

The article examines the reports on the 1050th anniversary of the Baptism of Poland as a religious and political event in mainstream Polish newspapers, websites and TV news in April of 2016. Using qualitative grounded theory and quantitative intermedia agenda-setting at the networked level, the author shows how this religious event was presented and interpreted as a dominant force in this Church–state relationship. As a result, he claims that the Church–state relationship in media was covered by an increasing policy of the Church putting pressure on the state by expanding religion in the public sphere.

The article raises the notions of changes that take place in the life of a physically handicapped person which are caused by their engagement in a sports activity. In the article I make an attempt to reconstruct the detailed mechanisms of sport’s influence on the life of a physically handicapped person, pointing to the manner in which physical activity supports the reconstruction of self-perception, a redefinition of their role, and the acquisition of a cognitive perspective of people meaningful to the individual. I refer to the subjective perspective of those researched, rendering their own point of view into the major subject of analysis. Hence, the research exploits qualitative data, collected during in-depth free interviews and observations conducted among the disabled practicing sports. Analysis and interpretation of the research material was performed in accordance with the procedures of grounded theory.

This article explores the connection between Constructivist Grounded Theory (CGT) and Symbolic Interactionism (SI) in the light of the methodological position presented in Herbert Blumer’s Symbolic Interactionism: Perspective and Method. The examination of this connection will take place in three steps: firstly, I will offer some preliminary considerations with regard to ‘variant forms’ in Grounded Theory (GT) as well as cite the present debates about the differences and similarities between different approaches within it; then, I will describe the essential characteristics of the ‘methodological position’ of SI and build some lines of continuity between these elements and the main tenets of constructionist GT; finally, I will present ten conceptual expressions and methodological practices in which it is possible to verify the methodological convergence between the two perspectives. This analysis makes it possible to consider the Constructivist Grounded Theory as a set of coherent principles, methods, and research practices from the point of view of a scholar inspired by the SI’s perspective. However, the peculiar reference to the methodological position of SI does not exhaust the set of possible epistemological and methodological sources, from which the perspective of GT derives. Instead, it represents a controversial point, with regard to which the debate still appears to be particularly heated.

The article deals with joining the educational content of the subject National history and geography with an environmental topic. A qualitative analysis of the author’s educational programme Prehistory – The Life of Gatherers and Hunters based on constructivist principles and psychosomatic participation of pupils, points to possibilities of connecting the instructional and educational potential of the chosen educational topic. A recording of the final verbal reflection completed with photographs of still images demonstrates the cognitive demandingness of education within a wider environmental context.

Article discusses the procedures for building the grounded theory (TG) against the rules accompanying qualitative data analysis (QDA). The paper focuses on the mechanisms of the emergence of concepts, categories, the use of continuous benchmarking, theoretical sampling, theoretical saturation and the status of engendered hypotheses. Reference was made to the difficulties in building a workshop of a qualitative researcher, especially memoing and writing metaphors as important elements for generating TG. The last part concerns the use of inductive capability in developing the concept of medium range – supporting the understanding of the routine of professional experiences of physical culture teachers.

This study presents situational analysis as a suitable framework for the development of qualitatively-oriented interdisciplinary research in the social sciences. The article argues that even though interdisciplinary research is considered a coveted form of research practice, it is not particularly well developed in the social sciences. This is partly due to institutional barriers, but also because the majority of disciplines lack a suitable theoretical and methodological framework capable of unifying a variety of theoretical bases and primarily methodological processes. Situational analysis, which is based on the work of second generation grounded theorists, is ideal for this purpose, as it offers a frame for theoretical, epistemological, empirical and methodological interdisciplinarity.

ObjectivesThe purpose of this research is to explore the appropriate behaviors and characteristics of Patients for Patient Safety (PFPS) against the Chinese cultural background, especially the types and internal logical relationships of behaviors of PFPS.Material and MethodsIn this research, Glazer’s methodology principle of the traditional grounded theory was adopted, and the methods of objective sampling, theoretical sampling and snowball sampling were employed. Considering the diversity of the interviewed subjects’ gender, age, professional title, qualification and demographic characteristics, representatives of hospital management staff, doctors, nurses, patients and their family members from different provinces and cities across the country were selected for semi-structured in-depth interviews to assess the behaviors of PFPS against the Chinese cultural background. In addition, some PFPS reports were collected from network media to supplement the interview data. All interviews were recorded and collated into Word text documents. Qualitative research data analysis software Nvivo 12 was used to sort out the collected data, and the theme was separated out through the strategy of substantive coding and theoretical coding.ResultsIn this research, the appropriate behaviors of PFPS were taken as the research content; 6 categories of appropriate behaviors of PFPS were separated out; and a model diagram of PFPS was constructed accordingly.ConclusionsA model diagram of the appropriate behaviors of PFPS against the Chinese cultural background was constructed to provide theoretical guidance for relevant research and practice.

The rise of social media has had a huge impact on the body modification services market. This study aims to reflect on the transformation of the tattoo community, giving voice to tattoo artists themselves in order to reveal their practices within the digital spaces they operate in, and on this basis, to undertake a broader reflection on users’ expectations towards social media in their current form and in the future. In order to achieve this premise, a grounded theory methodology was applied. The results of the study suggest that forms of resistance to platform hegemony, such as alternative social media, would not necessarily address the real needs of tattoo artists and their clients. Tattoo artists, by inventing various tactics of poaching in the polymedia environment, can reap unexpected benefits from the aspects of the platforms that are often perceived as limiting and potentially harmful  – such as content selection algorithms.
