Moralists over several centuries devoted much attention to the problem of binge drinking. Regardless of age condemning this sin, commonly emphasizing as extremely dangerous source of other serious blames. The sin was particularly discussed in the context of the spiritual ministry of sinful priest. Especially teachers from the revival of the Orthodox times of early 17th century, often used to point out the contradiction, that exists between the ideal of the Christian priesthood and the need to bear witness to the truth of life and words and abuse of alcohol, which is its explicit denial, degrades morally, leads to ridicule and is the reason for scandal and even sin faithful. New to the printed sources from this period, is much stronger link with the specific problem of drunkenness and negligence of priest as celebrant, minister of the sacraments, especially the servant of the words and the teacher. It was connected with the then desire to rebuild priestly formation.
Przedstawić Bogu własną winę jako coś przynależącego do mnie i zakładanego w sposób bezwarunkowy stanowi jedną z najważniejszych prawd rozpoznanych o Bogu i Biblii. To Prawo wymaga zasadniczej przemiany człowieka.
The article attempts to prove the validity of Origen’s thesis that two versions of the Lord’s Prayer noted by evangelists Matthew and Luke represents two different prayers. To validate the thesis, the author interprets extracts from the New Testament by using the initiation method. Through this method he demonstrates that catechumens were probably taught the version of the Lord’s Prayer noted by Luke, while the version written by Mark could be destined for those who had been baptised.
Interesował go przede wszystkim duchowy aspekt tych zjawisk, widząc je jako zesłane przez Boga głównie jako kara za grzechy i znaki ostrzegawcze, mające doprowadzić ludzi do pokuty.

Abstract. Gottfried Erhard Feßken was a seventeenth century ecclesiastic who used as the subject of his sermons various unusual natural phenomena of his times: the appearance of comets, earthquake, the locust, and severe storms. He was primarily interested in the spiritual aspect of these phenomena seeing them as sent by God primarily as a punishment for sins and as warning signs to bring people to repentance.
In our dissertation attention is concentrated on the sacrament of penance and reconciliation. The fundamental aim is to consider the anthropological dimension of this sacrament. The sacrament of penance, like all the sacraments, is a personal meeting between God and an individual person. Its intent and purpose is to restore that individual's relationship to God: that is, the community of life with Him, lost by sin. The sacrament is not only reconciliation with God, but also with the Church and with other people. Man is reconciled with himself, and what is more, with the whole world. The sacrament of penance and reconciliation is a precious gift given man by a God of Mercy, who is the Father of Mercy and the source of all forgiveness. The sacrament is also a challenge for a person to become totally involved in the process of internal conversion. It builds the identity and integrity of a human being. It allows an individual to find himself and his vocation to live the Divine Life. Finally, it remains the only obvious way of an individual's personal development, the aim of which is to reach human holiness. Our responsibility to freedom is also constantly strengthened by this sacrament.
The article aims to answer the question of how in the history of exegesis the statement of the Apostle Paul from 2 Cor 5:21a (“God made Christ a sin”) was interpreted. The article consists of several parts examining the issue chronologically. At the beginning the interpretation of 2 Cor. 5:21a by theologians of the Patristic era (esp. Origen, Cyril of Alexandria, Gregory of Nazianzus; Gregory of Nyssa, John Chrysostom, and Augustine of Hippo) was presented. Then, the interpretation by medieval theologians (esp. Anselm of Canterbury) was discussed. In the third stage the understanding of 2 Cor 5:21a by Martin Luther, Jan Calvin, and other theologians of the Reformation era has been examined. The last step is the presentation of the interpretation of 2 Cor 5:21a during the modern era. It has been noticed that contemporary exegetes refer to the results of the theologians who lived before. In the interpretation of 2 Cor 5:21a, the three most important tendencies can be distinguished. First of them sees here a reference to the incarnation of the Son of God, the second one-a reference to His death understood as a sacrifice for sin, and the third trend understands making Jesus sin in relation to the reality of sin that Jesus Christ faced.

Najpierw przedstawiona została interpretacja 2 Kor 5,21a przez teologów epoki patrystycznej (zwłaszcza Orygenesa, Cyryla Aleksandryjskiego, Grzegorza z Nazjanzu, Grzegorza z Nyssy, Jana Chryzostoma, Augustyna z Hippony).
50 years after the publication of the encyclical Humanae vitae, there was a demand to read it again in the light of the method proposed by Pope Francis in the exhortation Amoris laetitia. The new reading of the teachings of Pope Paul VI should take into account a new perspective: not from moral norms, but from the description of the reality in which the spouses find themselves. This new reading optics of Humanae vitae outlined in Amoris laetitia raises the question: is the teaching of Pope Francis a continuation or a new interpretation of morality? There are clear differences in taking such issues as: the essence of sin, its horizontal and vertical dimension, the existence of internally evil acts. Contrary to Paul VI, Francis takes the question of conscience and its role in moral choices. It is hard to resist the impression that the concept of creative conscience, definitely rejected by John Paul II, appears in the moral justifications of Pope Francis. We can also come across fragments of Pope Francis' exhortation, which may prove that he was on the side of the concept of the gradation of law, also rejected in the teaching of the Church so far. Various ways of interpreting certain aspects of moral teaching lead to the conclusion that the exhortation of Francis in many points does not indicate the continuation of the moral doctrine, but is a proposal for a new paradigm of morality.

This article stems from the narrative contained in the Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Reconcilatio et paenitentia of Saint John Paul II, who strongly warned Christians against losing their sense of sin. The work consists of three parts. The first one presents the main causes of the loss of the sense of sin in the modern world, and a catechetical strategy that calls for making a distinction between sinners and their sins and misconduct in order to attain true reconciliation. In the second part, an attempt will be made to justify the need to combat moral misconduct, which may result either from mere negligence or spiritual indifference. The author explains that sin is an obvious disturbance of the objective order of God, caused by a free and conscious act of man, that exists in the world. Also, it will be highlighted that there still exists a process of temptation to sin by the significant forces of evil; this process weakens the ability to be converted. Moreover, the five-stage process of sinfulness is described. The third part will explain why man’s personal conversion is a necessary element of forgiveness. Although only God can truly forgive guilt and wrongdoing by giving man His grace, still forgiveness is necessary as a prerequisite for the proper development and maturation of the human person. The article ends with a reflection that without conversion and the ability to forgive there is no true human community, much less a Christian community.

Niniejszy artykuł wyrasta z narracji zawartej w posynodalnej adhortacji apostolskiej Reconcilatio et paenitentia św.
Tertullian in his treatise De paenitentia written at the end of the Catholic period of his life, believes that God can forgive the sins of man, and the penance is a prerequisite for this. First, a person can receive God’s mercy by taking repentance before baptism. The effect of this is forgiveness of all sins in the sacrament of baptism. Such a penance is determined by the word paenitentia. After having committed a mortal sin after baptism, Tertullian sees the opportunity to enter once again the path of repentance and receiving forgiveness through public confession and also severe public penance. He leaves so the way leading to the rapprochement to God, which is determined by the word exomologesis.
The article is an attempt to present the personalistic interpretation of the original sin. The subject matter connected with the sin of our Primogenitors is complex and multidimentional, it requires a systematic analysis conducted from different perspectives. Due to several charges leveled against the doctrine of protological sin in late 20th century, new propositions for the interpretation of this issue have emerged. The subject of this analysis is a personalistic approach to the issue presented in three paragraphs: 1) The mystery of human evil (mysterium iniquitatis), 2) A drama of the fall of the first people and 3) A theological analysis of structural elements of the original sin.
Jacob is the son of Isaac and Rebekah. In his attitudes and acts he is not irreproachable, righteous and transparent, but all the same it is with him that God creates history! Already when he was being born he grasped his brother Esau by his heel. Using a trick he bought the birthright and his father’s blessing. So he has to escape. In Laban’s home he marries Leah and Rachel who give birth to his children. When he was returning home with his whole family he had an encounter with God, during which encounter God changed his name to Israel. This was also the moment of Jacob’s inner transformation, when a treacherous and dishonest man was changed into an indomitable, subject to God one. The article shows these stories in a certain very important key. The history of Jacob’s life and various events connected with it is the way the inspired author shows how God led his chosen one towards himself. This is important for us, who are chosen by God and called to be saint by the mandate of holy baptism, as also each of us has his own history of life, including good and edifying events, but also difficult and ambiguous ones. And if it is so, maybe God—like in Jacob’s life—also in our lives, through exactly such events leads us to himself!

Sin and responsibility for it is one of the important themes of the Bible. The texts of the Old Testament mention sins of adults, but also sins of children and young people. Youth does not exempt from responsibility for violations and deficiencies, particularly in the sphere of religious life. Young people also incur God’s sanctions if they neglect the knowledge of God and, consequently, speak in a wrong way about God; if they deny the plan and design of the action of God for people and by people, or too loosely handle what is holy. The Old Testament advises young people that in the name of religious and ethical responsibility, they should respect the things of God and the holy, observe moderation in the use of life and its benefits, and not forget about God’s judgement.
In theology a sin is described as mysterium iniquitatis and absolution from it – mysterium salutis or pietatis. In the New Testament a sin is always connected with absolution, „forgiveness”, and sinners are of great concern for Jesus. Nevertheless, modern culture becomes more and more detached from Christian tradition and thus deprives a human being of the spiritual values and makes him become further impoverished. This article provides a synthetic discussion of the reality of a sin – “mystery of illicitness” and also reflects on repentance and reconciliation with God and with one's own neighbour. The reflections presented in this article are based on the teachings of the contemporary Church and on the Papal teachings especially.

In the broader spectrum of Protestant ethics Reinhold Niebuhr’s Christian realism still appears to be an important and useful concept. This paper explains several major aspects of the concept which made Niebuhr a very influential figure in the Christian and political context of American life in his days. This would include acknowledging the sinfulness of human nature and its impact on society while stressing the responsibility both of the individual and of the nation, particularly of the US in the postwar world. Niebuhr himself was active in the public debates and political life. His ideas have been recently revived among some American presidents and politicians who claimed to have been influenced by them. Several parallels can also be drawn between Protestant Christian realism and Catholic social teaching.

Akcentowała ona konieczność realistycznego spojrzenia zwłaszcza na rzeczywistość społeczną, by uniknąć idealistycznego błędu teologii liberalnej. Oznaczało to m.in. potrzebę uznania ludzkiej grzeszności i jej skutków w różnych wymiarach życia społecznego. Koncepcja realizmu chrześcijańskiego zawiera też w sobie pewne podobieństwa do niektórych zagadnień z zakresu katolickiej myśli społecznej.
In modern times, a therapeutic culture is promoted in which people express their resistance toward all forms of suffering and pain and make many efforts in order to stay healthy and well. All this is a challenge for the Church, whose task is to use the therapeutic potential of the Christian faith and help them in leading a healthy life. It becomes possible when a person is able to integrate in her life all states – illness, death, wrong decisions and failings. In this action of supportive believers, God himself supports them how to serve people who are sick in body and soul, descending towards them with his foregoing love. God’s action, filled with care for the weak and needy and with graciousness towards sinners, is a model for pastors who are called to carry out their ministry in the spirit of benignitas pastoralis. Then, compassion, solidary closeness and God’s tenderness are communicated to people in the interpersonal relationships they establish in their pastoral activity. Pastoral meekness practiced in this way leads people seeking health to accept their fragility and sinfulness, to unite with God and to draw strength from it to overcome their weaknesses and spiritual hurts.

The Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation is the continuation of the saving power of the Paschal Mystery of Christ as a great work of reconciliation of man with God, with other people, with himself and with the whole created world. It unites in this way what has been separated by human sin, committed at the instigation of the devil. The forgiveness and grace received from God in this sacrament allows to overcome the disruption and divisions that are the hallmark of the evil spirit and to participate in the victory of Christ over sin, death and Satan. The very structure of confession allows to discover the antidemonic dimension of this sacrament and the true freedom of God’s children in Christ.

Sakrament pokuty i pojednania to kontynuacja zbawczej mocy Tajemnicy Paschalnej Chrystusa jako wielkiego dzieła pojednania człowieka z Bogiem, z bliźnimi, z samym sobą i z całym światem stworzonym.
