The author of the article presents how eighteenth-century writer Józef Legowicz sees the issue of motherhood. Józef Legowicz was a priest and a doctor of theology. He was a parson in Korkożyszki, a small village in Lithuania. He published 18 works, one of which was the guidebook Wedlock. He tried to show his parishioners the best way to achieve a harmonious marriage and raise children as good Christians. This guidebook is a valuable source of information about mother- and fatherhood in 18th Century Poland. The main task of this article is to show the unique role of women in the early stages of a child’s life.

Jesienią 2012 r. wrocławskie Wydawnictwo Via Nova wydało książkę Muzea Wrocławia. Jest ona przewodnikiem po 26 muzeach i miejscach gromadzenia oraz ekspozycji dzieł sztuki, a także innych rzeczy cennych, które wpisane są w krajobraz kultury współczesnego Wrocławia. Pod względem edytorskim książka jest albumem, ukazującym na licznych fotografiach te miejsca muzealne oraz skarby natury i dzieła sztuki.Publikacja powstała z inicjatywy Wrocławskiego Oddziału Stowarzyszenia Historyków Sztuki, które dostrzegło potrzebę ponownego opisania tej przestrzeni kultury materialnej i duchowej, jaką tworzą muzea wrocławskie. W okresie po II wojnie światowej były już wydawane przewodniki: Muzea Wrocławskie. Przewodnik pod red. Marii Starzewskiej przez Ossolineum w 1973 r., Muzea Wrocławskie od 1814 roku autorstwa Adama Więcka przez Wydawnictwo Miłośników Wrocławia WRATISLAVIA w 1997 r., Muzea Wrocławia Museen in Breslau przez Studio Wydawnicze Plan w 2005 r. i wreszcie omawiana publikacja, którą opracował zespół 8 autorów, kierowany przez Beatę Lejman. Pomysł realizacji wydawnictwa uzyskał szeroką aprobatę i wsparcie kierownictw muzeów wrocławskich oraz zespołów ich pracowników. Wielostronną wartość książki dla kultury miasta doceniły władze Wrocławia, dofinansując jej druk.Muzea Wrocławia to książka rozszerzająca wiedzę o historii muzeów w tym mieście na tle historii życia Wrocławian, o ich gustach, ambicjach, pasjach... w przeszłości i współczesnych. Jest to także opowieść o rzeczach i miejscach wyjątkowych, w które muzea wrocławskie obfitują, i dla których warto tu przyjeżdżać ze wszystkich zakątków świata. Dla pragnących pogłębienia tej wiedzy dodano wybór literatury. To przewodnik praktycznie informujący o adresach muzeów, telefonach, stronach wirtualnych i adresach internetowych, także o godzinach udostępniania zbiorów oraz o różnych usługach i udogodnieniach. Zamieszczono w nim również plan miasta z naniesionymi nań charakterystycznymi ikonkami muzeów, aby łatwiej je odnaleźć w przestrzeni miasta. Przewodnik wydano w dwóch językach kongresowych – angielskim i niemieckim – ważnych także w turystyce światowej i środkowoeuropejskiej.

In the autumn of 2012 the Via Nova publishing house in Wrocław issued the guidebook: Muzea Wrocławia, encompassing 26 museums and centres collecting and displaying works of art as well as other valuables, part of the cultural landscape of contemporary Wrocław. From the editorial viewpoint this is an album with numerous photographs of museums, works of art and treasures of Nature. The publication was written upon the initiative of the Wrocław Branch of the Society of Historians of Art, which perceived the need for a new portrayal of this particular domain of material and spiritual culture comprised by the museums of Wrocław. The following guidebooks appeared during the post-World War II period: Muzea Wrocławskie. Przewodnik, edited by Maria Starzewska and issued by Ossolineum in 1973, Muzea Wrocławskie od 1814 roku by Adam Więcek,published by Wydawnictwo Miłośników Wrocławia WRATISLAVIA in 1997, Muzea Wrocławia/ Museen in Breslau, issued by Studio Wydawnicze Plan in 2005 and, finally, the discussed publication written by a team of eight authors under Beata Lejman. The idea of the publication won the wide approval and support of the heads of Wrocław museums as well as their staff. The comprehensive value of the book for the culture of the town was appreciated by the authorities of Wrocław, who additionally financed the undertaking. Muzea Wrocławia expands knowledge about the history of the municipal museums against the background of the history of the life of the local residents, their tastes, ambitions and passions ... both past and contemporary. This is also a story about exceptional objects and places, with which the museums of Wrocław abound and for whose sake it is certainly worth coming from all over the world. Readers wishing to multiply their knowledge are provided with a list of selected reading. The guidebook contains practical information about the addresses of the museums, telephone numbers, virtual sites and Internet addresses, as well as opening hours and available assorted services and facilities. The album also includes a plan of the town featuring characteristic icons of the museums, making it easier to find them. The guidebook is published in two congress languages - English and German, of importance also in global and Central European tourism.

Artykuł dotyczy gatunkowych i stylistycznych związków między powieścią Faraon Bolesława Prusa a dziewiętnastowiecznym piśmiennictwem poświęconym starożytnemu Egiptowi Monografie, podręczniki, reportaże, artykuły gazetowe występują tu nie tyle jako źródła wiedzy, ile jako gatunkowa matryca wypracowana przez i dla człowieka Zachodu, umożliwiająca mu pisanie i czytanie o staroegipskiej cywilizacji. Szczególną uwagę poświęca autor roli prasy, zwłaszcza „Tygodnika Ilustrowanego”, gdzie Prus publikował swą powieść. Dziewiętnastowieczne czasopismo, zdaniem autora, nie jest wyłącznie miejscem publikacji utworu literackiego. Zawarte w nim teksty wchodzą z nim w rozmaite relacje stylistyczne, gatunkowe i poznawcze. „Tygodnik Ilustrowany” pośredniczył między Faraonem a piśmiennictwem egiptologicznym poprzez szereg artykułów popularyzujących.

The paper examines generic and stylistic relations between the novel Pharaoh by Bolesław Prus and the 19th century writings devoted to the ancient Egypt. Monographs, handbooks, reportages, newspaper articles are considered not so much the sources of the knowledge as the sort of generic matrix elaborated for people of the West to write and read on the Egyptian civilisation. The author discusses several connections between Pharaoh and the content of “Tygodnik Ilustrowany”, a weekly where the novel was published. The 19th century press is considered here not a merely medium for a novel in serial nor even a simple source of ideology, but also a network of generic and thus cognitive instruments necessary for a novelist.

Kartographische Dokumente wurden in der Universitätsbibliothek der Katholischen Universität Lublin von Anfang ihres Bestehens an gesammelt, d.h. seit 1918, und mit ihrer systematischen Bearbeitung begann man 1948. Die Sektion Graphische, Kartographische und Musikalische Sammlungen, die im Rahmen der Abteilung Spezialsammlungen funktioniert, ist gegenwärtig im Besitz von 1300 Atlanten, beinahe 900 Karten, fast 3000 Leitfäden bzw. Reiseführern sowie ungefähr 300 Volumina in der Handbibliothek. Die Sammlung der ältesten und wertvollsten Atlanten und Karten mit Denkmalswert enthält Werke der hervorragendsten europäischen Kartographen – von Abraham Ortelius (u.a. „Theatrum Orbis Terarum”), Gerhard Kremer, genannt Mercator („Atlas sive cosmographicae” und „Atlas minor”), John Speed, Johann Baptist Homann, Giovanni Rizzi-Zannoni und vielen anderen. Die polnischen Autoren des 19. Jahrhunderts sind u.a. durch Stanisław Staszic, Joachim Lelewel, Juliusz Kolberg und Wojciech Chrzanowski vertreten. Von den polnischen kartographischen Verlagserzeugnissen des 20. Jahrhunderts müssen erwähnt werden die Veröffentlichungen aus Warschau (die vorzüglichen WIG-Karten) und Lwów/Lemberg (die Karten und Atlanten der „Książnica” sowie der Atlas von Eugeniusz Romer). Unter den Karten fi nden sich mehrere Unikate – der „Plan der Grube und der Stadt Wieliczka” von Marcin German und Wilhelm Hondius, die handschriftliche „Mappa dioeceseos Chelmensis et Belzensis...” sowie „Magnis Ducatus Lithuaniae” von Tomasz Makowski (die sogenannte Radziwiłł-Karte). Die Sammlung touristischer Reiseführer umfasst viele polnische und ausländische Publikationen, auch aus der Vorkriegszeit. Hier fi ndet man Reiseführer aus den sogenannten Ostgebieten, eine Sammlung von Friedhofsführern sowie die heute herausgegebenen Reihen von „National Geographic” oder vom Verlag „Pascal”. Die kartographische Handbibliothek enthält grundlegende Publikationen, die als Hilfsmittel zur Bearbeitung kartographischer Dokumente dienen. Außer Bibliographien, gedruckten Katalogen und Wörterbüchern fi ndet man dort auch Werke aus dem Bereich der Geschichte und Theorie der Kartographie. Zu den wertvollsten Titeln gehören der „Katalog der Atlanten aus der Bibliothek der Stefan-Batory-Universität in Wilna” von Mikołaj Dzikowski sowie „Kartographie des früheren Polen” von Edward Rastawiecki. Die kartographischen Sammlungen der Universitätsbibliothek der KUL bilden eine hervorragende Quelle des Wissens für Geographen, Historiker und Kunsthistoriker. Da sich nicht alle Leser der Bibliothek über die reiche Fülle der dort aufbewahrten Sammlungen bewusst sind, stellt der vorliegende Beitrag den Versuch einer Gesamtschau der kartographischen Bestände dar und soll zur selbständigen Suche ermuntern.
