To assess how out-of-pocket health care payments (OOP payments) affect poverty, the comparative study between Poland and Sweden was preformed. The Polish households were more often impoverished due to OOP payments than their Swedish counterparts. It could be mainly observed in the group of households living in the countryside, without high/level of education and unemployed families. It should be underlined that while in Poland, the main reason for impoverishment was the consumption of pharmaceutical and medical products, it was dental services in Sweden.

W artykule podjęto próbę oceny wpływu współpłacenia na zjawisko ubóstwa na podstawie analizy rozkładu wydatków gospodarstw domowych na ochronę zdrowia pod kątem poszukiwania nowych rozwiązań systemowych możliwych do implementacji w naszym kraju. Przyjęto, iż krajem którego doświadczenia mogą posłużyć za wzór do konstrukcji rozwiązań systemowych w warunkach polskich, może być Szwecja. W nawiązaniu do tak określonego celu sformułowano tezę badawczą, która wskazuje na większą skalę ubożenia spowodowanego współpłaceniem w Polsce w porównaniu ze Szwecją w 2003 r.
