The article looks at the question of higher education funding schemes. In the first section the institutional aspects are covered. The author examines how various government agencies and other institutions finance universities and research. Next, he covers European funds dedicated to the financing of higher education and research. The article concludes with some recommendations.

The paper focuses on selected problems of financing in higher education. Based on statistical data, the author analyses the situation in various types of higher education institutions. The period analysed is 13 years, and the analysis focuses on the number of students as well as revenues from teaching activity and related costs. Based on the available data, the author computes mean unit values of revenue, cost and profit from teaching activities as well as profitability of such activities. Comparisons are drawn over time (13 years), and by school type.

Artykuł jest poświęcony wybranym problemom finansowania szkolnictwa wyższego. Autor - na podstawie danych statystycznych - poddaje analizie sytuację w różnych rodzajach uczelni. Okres omawianych badań obejmuje 13 lat, a ich zakres - liczbę studentów oraz przychody i koszty działalności dydaktycznej. Analiza danych pozwala na wyznaczanie średnich wartości jednostkowych: (przychodu, kosztu i zysku z działalności dydaktycznej) oraz rentowności tej działalności. Porównanie tych wartości jest przeprowadzane zarówno w czasie (13 lat), jak i w zależności od rodzaju uczelni.
