Na wstępie przedstawiono drogi życiową, zawodową i naukową Hilarego Schramma (1857-1940), wychowanka m.in. Theodora Billrotha, ordynatora oddziałów chirurgicznych, m.in. w Szpitalu św. Zofii i Powszechnego Szpitala Krajowego we Lwowie, szczególnie zasłużonego w ortopedii i chirurgii dziecięcej, twórcę „szkoły chirurgicznej”. Przedstawiono jego dokonania w leczeniu takich chorób rynolaryngologicznych, jak włókniaka młodzieńczego, nowotworu złośliwego jamy ustnej, wymagającej operacji metodą Gussenbauera, nowotworu złośliwego przełyku, usuwania ciał obcych krtani i przełyku. Szeroko stosował w chirurgii elektrolizę. Krytycznie podchodził do leczenia gruźlicy limfą Kocha.

The life, professional and scientific ways of Hilary Schramm (1857-1940), pupil of Theodor Billroth, head of surgical wards, among others at the St. Zofia and the General National Hospital in Lvow, especially deserved in orthopedics an pediatric surgery, the creator of the “surgical school” are presented at the beginning. His achievements in the treatment of such diseases such as juvenile fibroma, oral cancer, requiring surgery by Gussenbauer, malignant esophageal cancer, foreign body of larynx and esophagus are analyzed in details. He widely used electrolysis in surgery. He treated critically to the treatment of tuberculosis by Koch᾿s lymph.
