The battle by Hámry (1708) is linked to names, events and tragedies of the fallen and the injured. The evaluation and specific maneuvers of the enemy armies have been discussed (fairly) reliably in the scholarly literature. On the other hand, only incomplete, fragmented data about the character of the landscape of the battlefield and its unique parameters are available. This essay examines the landscape of the battlefield and other selected phenomena of the battle, which are reconstructed using a digital model of the relief.

The First Military Survey offers an extraordinary insight into a landscape at the time just after the mid-18th century. This study has two basic objectives: 1) generally to point out the spectrum of possibilities, but also limitations of the testimony of the First Military Survey (map as well as written descriptions), and 2) use the example of Třeboň Region to demonstrate this spectrum, with its uniquely preserved agricultural cultural landscape, to which the results of the survey had not yet been more widely applied.

For almost half a millennium, the landscape surrounding the stud farm in Kladruby nad Labem has served the purpose of breeding and training of the famous Kladruber horses. At the present day, this area is a national cultural monument and, since 2019, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The grounds of the Kladruby nad Labem National Stud, one of the oldest functional studs in the world, are situated in the Polabí region, in the floodplain of the river Elbe. The National Stud is a uniquely preserved historical cultural landscape with an extraordinary balance of natural and cultural values, including both landscape composition and remnants of original biotopes.

The subject of the article oscillates around the discussion of the concept of ‘longing’ in Martin Pollack’s reportages about Galicia. From a methodological point of view, the basis for research is the author's family biography in relation to historical transformations, as well as the author’s personal experiences and observations during his journey through Galicia. The focus is on the question of how Pollack (re)constructs historical space and depicts it in an aesthetic and literary way. Pollack aims to discover Galicia based on individual and collective memories.
