The articles presents a profi le of Professor Leon Staniewicz. He was born in 1871 in St. Petersburg, graduated from St. Petersburg University (1894) and the University of Electrotechnology in St. Petersburg (1903). There he lectured in secondary schools, as well as in the Institute of Civilian Engineers, the Technical Institute, and in the Electrotechnology Institute (1915 – doctorate, Associate Professor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor). From 1920, he was full Professor of the Electrotechnology Department at the Warsaw Technical University, Dean of the Machinery Construction and Electrotechnology Faculty and then of the Electrotechnology Faculty (1920–1921). As Vice-Chancellor of the Warsaw Technical University (1921–1923), Leon Staniewicz contributed to the development of the University, where he was also Deputy Vice-Chancellor, delegate to the Senate, and, again, Dean of the Electrotechnology Faculty. In 1933, as a result of J. Jędrzejewicz’s reform, he became inactive and then retired. Later he lectured at the Architecture Department of the Warsaw Technical University (1934–1939). He was also active in the State Electric Council, Academy of Technical Sciences, Warsaw Scientifi c Society, Warsaw Polytechnic Society. He was also the President of the Polish Electrotechnical Committee (1924–1932), member of the Board of the Polish Electricians Association (1929–1933) and its honorary member since 1932. During Nazi occupation in Warsaw, in 1944 he was displaced to the internment camp at Pruszków. From September 1, 1945, he lectured at the Mechanical-Electrical Faculty of the Gdańsk Technical University, was full Professor at the Department of Theoretical Electrotechnology, author and co-author of course books and textbooks (the most important was Teoria prądów zmiennych) and numerous articles in magazines. He died on January 11, 1951 in Gdańsk.
