Instytut Rozwoju Miast w 2007 r. po raz pierwszy przeprowadził badanie ankietowe wśród studentów na temat „Młodzi na rynku mieszkaniowym”. Badanie przeprowadzono w 11 uczelniach, w 9 miastach, a po raz drugi w roku 2011 także w 11 uczelniach i 9 miastach. Wyniki badań z 2007 i 2011 r. wskazują na zmiany w preferencjach dotyczących lokalizacji – wzrosła popularność zamieszkiwania poza miastem, spadła natomiast popularność mieszkania w dużych miastach poza centrum. Wyniki badań z roku 2007 i 2011 wskazują, że droga do mieszkania młodych, wykształconych ludzi staje się coraz trudniejsza ze względu na wysokie bezrobocie (brak zdolności kredytowej), brak finansowej samodzielności (oczekiwanie na pomoc rodziców) oraz niepewne wsparcie ze strony rządu (preferencyjny kredyt, budowa mieszkań na wynajem) ze względu na spowolnienie gospodarcze i trudności budżetowe państwa.

In 2007, 10 years after introduction of market economy in Institute of Urban Development conducted first research among students on the subject of "Youths and housing market". The survey was conducted in 11 universities located in 9 towns. For the second time the survey was conducted in 2011, also in 11 universities, in 9 towns. Comparison of the results from 2007 and 2011 shows the change in the preferences concerning location of the flats – dwelling outside towns become more popular when popularity of dwelling in big towns outside downtown decreases. The results also show that the way of obtaining own house is more difficult for young and educated people because of high unemployment (low credit ranking), helplessness (expectation of the help from parents) and weakening support from the government agencies (preferential credits, social housing) resulted from stagnation of economy and budget difficulties.
