Autor prowadzi rozważania o uniwersalności orientacji optymistycznych i pesymistycznych w indywidualnych kolejach życia człowieka w różnych okresach historii i warunków. Przedstawia indywidualny wymiar optymizmu i pesymizmu w aspekcie psychologicznym i w zachowaniach praktycznych. Równie istotne są uwagi o kulturowych i cywilizacyjnych uwarunkowaniach optymistycznego postrzegania świata, jak również o jego humanistycznych i religijnych źródłach. Druga część artykułu to opis genezy postaw pesymistycznych, które wynikają z globalnych zagrożeń rozwoju

The study contains initial reflections on the universality of optimistic and pessimistic individual orientations in human life in different periods of history and different conditions. Then I try to present the individual dimensions of optimism and pessimism in the aspect of psychological and practical behaviour. Equally important are the comments about conditioning of optimistic perception on the world through culture and civilization, with its humanistic and religious origins. The second part is dedicated to the description of the genesis of the pessimistic attitudes, rooted in the global threats, related to economic and ecological, ideologicalpolitical and individual nature of human personality.
