In the article I show the link between the crisis of the contemporary university and the crisis of the European humanity. It is expressed by an imbalance between the material and the spiritual dimensions of life and the domination of the hedonic, utilitarian and vital value above the aesthetic, moral and intellectual values. However, in science it is expressed in the shaping for the 19th century domination of science over the humanities. Its effect is to displace the theory in Greek meaning, understood as the admiration for the truth, goodness and beauty, by the theory understood as a useful scientific hypothesis. Crowding out of education, understood as the acquisition of human competency, through the education understood as equipping entities of the work in practical competence. In the article I put a postulate that the university should again become a space of free thought, independent of the pressures of politics and the economy. It should free itself from the bureaucratic yoke and regain the confidence to be able to give a full, universal education.

This article explores prospects of using Ubuntu and Capabilities Approach to expand the scope of humanitarian action, to design one which serves humanity better even in the absence of disaster to essentially fulfil human development needs. It is considerate of the fact that humanitarian works contributes immensely in determining the extent to which humanity thrives. The traditional view on humanitarianism presupposes action-driven initiatives geared towards devising interventions to restore or reinforce human social order, improve livelihoods and quality of life. In sociological terms, human development is dependent on realizing and safeguarding, amongst others, human well-being, civil liberties and social security. The article utilizes core values enshrined in Ubuntu, Africa’s historic philosophy of life, and Amartya Sen’s Capabilities Approach as tools of analysis, with the view to expressing how to operationalize what should be considered stable humanitarian conditions and human well-being. Owing to persistent socio-economic challenges, especially the poverty problem, it is asserted that humanitarian action ought to depart from being a post-disaster intervention strategy, to being a pro-active and preventative pre-disaster orientated action, intended to nurture well-being and resultantly enable human development.

The issue stated in the title is an attempt to understand the profound changes that have taken place in the culture of ethical education related to the relationship between humans and nature. The subject of analysis is linked to the need to promote interpersonal and interspecies humanitarianism. The author refers here to the educational activities aimed at shaping attitudes of respect for all living beings. The theoretical plane covers the ideas developed within the framework of the trend known as post-humanism. In this paper, the stance is that upbringing in humanitarianism is a great capacity that must be developed in children and adults. This is an ethical capacity for a community-oriented and respectful coexistence.

In the article the author discloses the historical aspects of professional education of the masses at the end of the XIX-th and the beginning of the XX-th centuries in the pedagogical works of V. V. Ryumin. At the end of the XIX-th and the beginning of the XX-th centuries the Russian Empire was going through plentiful growth of industry, which required a great number of qualified workers. The development of capitalist relations brought along devastation of the rural commune in the patriarchal village, unemployment of a large numbers of peasants, having no professional skills, which went to the cities in search of work. The country’s progressive public, worried about the existing situation, sought to find the way out in teaching professional occupations great numbers of illiterate and semiliterate peasants on the basis of primary schools. The solution of the problem was associated with private and social initiative in the cause of opening folk schools, where initial primary education was combined with professional training, with specific methodic councils being set up in such educational institutions to organize education process. The article highlights the fundamentals of pedagogical concepts of V. V. Ryumin with regard to professional training on the basis of folk schools: - combination of initial primary education with professional training in specific jobs, which will enable trainee to obtain employment at a plant or factory right after graduation from primary school without unnecessary apprenticeship with craftsmen; - democratic selection by trainees of such a job, which is in demand in regional labor market. V. V. Ryumin believed that through possibility to choose independently one’s job, primary school pupil could get additional motivation to master that job and achieve self-realization his life. - to inspire trainees to learn properly general subjects by exploiting their will to master their jobs. V. V. Ryumin thought that successful learning of general subjects and professional theoretical provisions in folk schools was possible due to «educational measures» of detachment from practical preparation in a selected job, which brought about positive results. - to use promising method of professional training of the girls on the basis of folk schools, whereby they obtain quality knowledge and skills, enabling them to become employed at a plant or factory. V. V. Ryumin was of the opinion that organization of needlework shops for the girls at folk schools could provide comfortable moral atmosphere within the school walls. The pedagogical concepts of V. V. Ryumin in the area of professional training are based on the humanistic principles of education.

Польша находится под контролируемым миграционным давлением на границе с Беларусью. Приток граждан третьих стран поддерживается белорусскими государственными службами. Эти действия носят гибридный характер и направлены на дестабилизацию ситуации в Польше и Европейском Союзе. Хотя Польша приняла адекватные меры для охраны и защиты своей границы, эти события являются проверкой эффективности и действенности функционирования системы государственной безопасности. Цель рассуждений - представить события, происходящие на польско-белорусской границе, и их влияние на безопасность нашей страны. В методологическом аспекте использовались сообщения СМИ и прессы, анализ исходных материалов и наблюдение за развитием ситуации. Результатом вышеизложенного является тот факт, что миграционный кризис не завершился и продолжает создавать серьезные угрозы для Польши.

Poland is under controlled migratory pressure on the border with Belarus. The influx of third-country nationals is supported by Belarusian state services. These activities are hybrid in their nature, and their aim is to destabilize the situation in Poland and the European Union. Although Poland has taken adequate measures to protect and defend its border, these events are a test of the effectiveness and efficiency of the functioning of the state security system. The purpose of this considerations is to present the events taking place on the PolishBelarusian border and their impact on the security of our state. In the methodological aspect, media and press reports, analysis of source materials and observation of the development of the situation were used. The result of the above is the fact that the migration crisis has not ended and continues to generate serious threats to Poland.

The text clearly indicates that thinking about humanistic education largely depends on the meanings given to such terms as humanism, humanitarianism, humanities  and the paradoxes which may arise if these terms are confused. At the same time, it emphasizes the absurdity of the contemporary Polish school. The conclusion includes one essential inference and one equally essential postulate: (1) cultivating the nineteenth century spirit of educational tradition, which collides with the modern civilization and cultural context leads to an intellectual catastrophe for generations to come, (2) The situation cannot possibly be rectified unless some fundamental changes are made to the present school concept, in fact, unless it is re-imagined or reinvented.

Tekst wskazuje na zależność myślenia o edukacji humanistycznej od znaczeń nadawanych pojęciom humanizm, humanitaryzm, humanistyka. Akcentuje przy tym absurdy charakteryzujące polską szkołę współczesną. Konkluzja obejmuje jeden zasadniczy wniosek i jeden równie zasadniczy postulat: (1) kultywowanie dziewiętnastowiecznej z ducha edukacyjnej tradycji w zderzeniu z cywilizacyjno-kulturowym kontekstem współczesności prowadzi do intelektualnej katastrofy na pokolenia w przód, (2) o naprawie sytuacji nie ma mowy bez gruntownego przepracowania idei szkoły i de facto wymyślenia jej na nowo.

Artykuł opisuje sprzeciw Papieża Jana Pawła II w kwestii stosowania kary śmierci. Papież uznaje tę karę za niehumanitarną i sprzeczną z prawami człowieka. Jan Paweł II podkreśla rolę godności oraz prawa do życia każdego człowieka. Papież Polak twierdzi, że zła popełnionego przez przestępcę nie sposób naprawić poprzez odebranie mu życia. Kara śmierci jest niezgodna z duchem ewangelii. Artykuł przedstawia starania Papieża aby wyeliminować karę śmierci na całym świecie. Ukazuje również zmianę w Kościele katolickim spowodowaną nauką Papieża Polaka. Jan Paweł II był pierwszym papieżem który potępił zdecydowanie karę śmierci.

The article describes the opposition of Pope John Paul II in the application of the death penalty. The Pope acknowledges that the penalty for inhumane and contrary to human rights. John Paul II emphasizes the role of dignity and right to life of every human being. Polish Pope says that the evil committed by the of fender can not be remedied by taking away life. The death penalty is incompatible with the spirit of the gospel. The article presents the Pope’s efforts to eliminate the death penalty worldwide. Also shows a change in the Catholic Church caused by the science of the Polish Pope. John Paul II was the first pope who condemned strongly the death penalty.

Od początku 1919 r. do II Rzeczypospolitej, jak i do innych państw Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej, zaczęły przybywać amerykańskie organizacje humanitarne, niosące pomoc materialną i żywnościową społeczeństwom dotkniętym skutkami wojny i epidemii chorób zakaźnych. Stowarzyszenia z USA, na czele z największą i najważniejszą z nich: Amerykańską Administracją Pomocy, skupiły się przede wszystkim na dożywianiu dzieci, mobilizując amerykańską opinię publiczną do przeznaczania środków finansowych na ten cel oraz przedstawiając sytuację niedożywionych najmłodszych z tej części Europy jako istotny problem społeczny. Starting from the early 1919, American humanitarian organizations began arriving in Poland, like in other states of Central Eastern Europe, with material and food assistance to societies devastated by the military conflict and epidemics of infectious diseases. American associations, with the largest and most important American Relief Administration in the lead, focused mainly on nourishing children, mobilizing American public opinion to raise money for this purpose, and presenting the situation of malnourished young children from this part of Europe as a grave social problem.

Artykuł stanowi próbę przedstawienia najistotniejszych cech pisarstwa Ricardy Huch z jej wczesnej fazy twórczości. Z metodologicznego punktu widzenia podstawę do badań stanowią: biografia autorki oraz jej zakorzenienie w historii myśli wczesnego romantyzmu niemieckiego. W myśl wczesnych romantyków, a w szczególności Novalisa, Huch dążyła do swoistej syntezy między faktami historycznymi, a sposobem postrzegania rzeczywistości przez piszącego artystę, który jednocześnie myśląc o jemu współczesnych kieruje się zamy-słem pedagogicznym, którego nadrzędnym celem jest przestrzeganie zasad humanitaryzmu w społeczeństwie.

The article is an attempt to present the most important features of Ricarda Huch’s writing found in the early stage of her literary creativity. From the methodological point of view, the basis for the research are the author’s biography and her inveteracy in the history of early German Romanticism. According to the early romantics, and particularly Novalis, Huch aspired to achieve a kind of synthesis between historical facts and the way of perceiving reality by a writing artist, who, while thinking about his contemporaries, is guided by the ped-agogical idea whose primary goal is to observe the principles of humanitarianism in the society.

Der vorliegende Beitrag ist ein Versuch auf die wesentlichen Interessenfelder der frühen Schaffensphase von Ricarda Huch einzugehen. Einen methodologischen Zugriff bildet ihre Biografie sowie ihre geistesgeschichtliche Verankerung in der Epoche der deutschen Frühromantik. Im Sinne der Frühromantiker, vor allem Novalis’, strebte Huch eine Synthese an zwischen den geschichtlich überlieferten Tatsachen und der Vorstellungswelt des dichten-den Künstlers, der mit seiner Dichtkunst ein pädagogisches Ziel verfolgt, dessen oberstes Prinzip das humane Verhalten des Menschen in der Gesellschaft sein soll.
