The article is devoted to the question of the opportunities for the utilization of individual authorial style provided in scientific discourse and scholarly communica¬tion. While established conventions and the high degree of normativity of scientific texts act in opposition to authorial originality, yet it is evident that individual authorial styles are expressed in this genre. The article aims to describe the resources used in the expression of individual style: essen¬tially, it is a matter of preferring specific choices from a set of established and generally accepted means of scientific discourse while reducing or eliminating others. Further on, this can even involve the inclusion of means which are not considered a legitimate part of scientific discourse (expressive or figurative means and the like). Specific aspects of individual styles are demonstrated using examples from texts by eminent Czech linguists.

The author is looking for traces of subjectivity in the scientific texts of an eminent Polish linguist. As the determinants of individual style, she recognizes certificates of reading (not only what the author reads but also how he reads), recognizing that the figures of the intertextual relationship (references, quotations, allusions, polemics) allows one to define the personality of the subject. She is interested in the plane of reflection, which manifests itself in the attitude of the scholar to the values of contemporary culture, to the change in the ideals of science, to the place and tasks of the choices of humanists and scholars (methodology, issues, forms of expression). She also finds features of individuality in the preferences of the author in the structure of his speech – composition, construction, syntax, lexis.

Polish stylistics of the last twenty years. She is concemed with the subject as the research object (subject in a text, discourse, genre) and as the research subject, which is the author of a scientific text in the stylistic field. She notices the changes have taken place in both of the above cases. In the former, the category of the subject has been redefined (from the grammatical to the personalized conceptualization of this category). In the latter, the transformations covered the objectives and problems of the research process (from analysis to interpretation). Apprehension of the subject as a person revitalized the research on individual styles, and simultaneously significantly broadened the scope of manifestation of what has a specific character in social interactions. Subject-centrism caused that, among other things, the stylistics became the open discipline, establishing a dialogue with other branches of humanities, and at the same time the subject has become an element that integrates various methodologies.

First part of the article outlines the evolution of the concept of individual style in stylistics. Second and third part point out the theoretical and methodological problems connected with the above-mentioned concept and draw attention to several possible Solutions. The radical solution consists - in the tradition of the negativistic propositions submitted by B. Gray in his book Style. The Problem and its Solution (1969) - in denying the existence of the phenomenon of individual style (Ch. Grimm, Zum Mythos Individualstil, 1991). If we want to defend the legitimacy and usefulness of the concept, we have to take into account various factors. (1) Individual style manifests itself in the whole textual production of a person, but only a part of this production can become object of research; so a complicated question arises, which texts can be considered representative. (2) The reductive approach to the individual style searches for those style traits that are specific only for the given author and tries to fdter out all the other traits. On the other hand, the complex approach conceives the individual style as a modę of selection and organization of the elements of author’s idiolect; thus, also the devices shared with other persons are considered as components of the individual style. (3) The individual style must be viewed as dynamie and changing in time.

This article focuses on the phenomenon of Ukrainian phraseology whose development has undoubtedly been greatly influenced by the elite lingual personality of Lina Kostenko. The current state of Ukrainian phraseology is described, including most significant changes and types of transformations of idioms made by authors. The topicality of this work is accounted for by the necessity of theoretical and practical study of the phraseological units functioning in the spectrum of structure, semantics and text stylistics, as well as the study of idiolect and idiostyle of Lina Kostenko. Individual idioms, created and used by Lina Kostenko, both in her poetry and in prose, and peculiarities of their functioning are investigated through the application of structural and semantic analysis. The author of the article concludes that in addition to creating new expressions, especially aphorisms, the writer actively transforms idioms by applying explication, substitution, contamination, as well as by changing the structural composition of fixed phrases while preserving the purpose of the expression.

The aim of this article is to verify whether and to what extent the imitation of another person’s writing style is possible. For this purpose, two literary texts ‒ Saturnin by Zdeněk Jirotka (1943) and Saturnin se vrací by Miroslav Macek (2017) ‒ have been analyzed. The text comparison makes use of some identification methods from forensic linguistics that are focused on language features that are less striking, but significant from the identification perspective.

This article offers an analysis of the phraseology in the Rafał Ziemkiewicz’s blog published in Rzeczpospolita online edition. The analysis is based on 18 entries written in the first half of 2009. The paper attempts to describe the functions of particular types of phrases and the relation between the functional and individual style of the discussed linguistic units. The article presents phraseological units and phrasems which follow the rules of contemporary Polish language, phraseological units and phrasems which represent the most important of Polish language as well as phraseological (modifying) innovations and phrasematics (‘winged’ words, phrasems, allusions, references, evocations, proper nouns and terms). While presenting the phraseological units and phrasems, the author follows the typology of Pajdzin´ska and Lewicki.
