This article aims to present our own research, diagnosing the level of psychosocial competencies of academic teachers at technical university – the competencies which are particularly important in the mediatised world. The research was done among 141 academic teachers of the Silesian University of Technology with the use of a diagnostic survey in 2019–2021. An expanded statistical analysis allowed the interpretation and assessment of 13 variables describing the investigated competencies.

Ideas of sustainable development can be perceived as a multidisciplinary concept with the human being at its core. The social aspect of sustainable development aims at social justice which assumes participation of every individual in the act of shaping the social and economic reality. Therefore, one of the main goals of sustainable development is to prevent social exclusion which has now, at the time of the development of information and communication technology, incorporated the digital divide. The article reviews the concepts and origin of sustainable development, the origin of information society and civilisation, social exclusion including digital divide. Basing on the framework of social exclusion by Jan van Dijk and the data from the report “Social diagnosis 2015” an attempt has been made to analyse the state of digital divide in Poland. The purpose of the discussion was to present the existing reality of the digital divide across the Polish society and to draw attention to the increase of the secondary digital divide as opposed to the primary one. The secondary divide is associated with actual use of IT tools while using IT is the prerequisite of participation in the social, professional and cultural life, the qualification for participation in sustainable development from the point of view of both, individuals and countries.

Idee rozwoju zrównoważonego można przedstawić jako wielodyscyplinarną koncepcje, w której sztandarowe miejsce zajmuje człowiek. Doktryna rozwoju zrównoważonego w aspekcie społecznym dąży do sprawiedliwości społecznej, zakładając partycypację każdego człowieka w kształtowaniu rzeczywistości społeczno-gospodarczej. Dlatego jednym z głównych celów rozwoju zrównoważonego jest przeciwdziałanie wykluczeniu społecznemu, które w momencie rozwoju technologii informacyjnej i telekomunikacyjnej rozszerzyło swoje rozważania o nierówności cyfrowe. W artykule dokonano przeglądu pojęć i genezy rozwoju zrównoważonego, powstania cywilizacji i społeczeństwa informacyjnego, wykluczenia społecznego, w tym cyfrowego. W oparciu o klasyfikację wymiarów wykluczenia społecznego wg Jana van Dijka oraz dane z raportu Diagnoza społeczna 2015 podjęto próbę przyjrzenia się sytuacji wykluczenia cyfrowego w Polsce. Celem było ukazanie obecnych realiów wykluczenia cyfrowego w społeczeństwie polskim oraz zwrócenie uwagi na wzrost wtórnego poziomu wykluczenia cyfrowego, w porównaniu do poziomu pierwotnego. Poziom wtórny związany jest z faktycznym wykorzystywaniem narzędzi informatycznych, a przecież korzystanie z nowych technologii jest warunkiem uczestniczenia w życiu zarówno społecznym, zawodowym, jak i kulturalnym. Jest to warunek udziału w zrównoważonym rozwoju, tak z punktu widzenia jednostki, jak i państw.
