This article embodies the theoretical foundation of innovation in the process of preparing students majoring «Primary education» to implement the content of the educational branch «Natural Science» of the State standard of primary education. There was made the analysis of the content of teaching capabilities of modern course «Natural Science» in shaping students’ key competencies and subject. It was established that the structure of the learning object provides informative and procedural components. In particular, the informative component is subordinate to the formation of natural science competencies of students by: learning systems of integrated knowledge of nature and man, based on environmental knowledge; mastery of teaching and learning methods and natural science activi¬ties; development of value orientations in relation to nature. Procedural component of the object is connected with peculiarities of studing the program material, that is, the method of teaching. The preparation of future teachers to implement the informative component of the subject occurs through the learning of «Fundamentals of Natural Science» and passing a field practice. The ability to implement the procedural component of the subject they formed while studying «Didactics», «Theory and methods of educational work», «Methods of Teaching Natural Science», «Technology of Studing Natural Science», «Ethics», «Аesthetics», passing the training and production practices from the 3rd to the 5th year and writing theses on relevant topics. In order to improve students’ readiness to study the activity is appropriate to make changes to the content and technological support for this process. In particular, the content of professional disciplines «Fundamentals of Natural Science» and «Methods of Teaching Natural Science» should be brought into line with the program on science elementary school; enhance the practical training of students through workshops and pedagogical practice; introduce new learning tools (workshops and workbooks) and control student’s achievement. Perspective way of improving the work in this direction is the development of a special course “Fundamentals of design and research works of pupils of primary school”, creating more detailed methodological recommendations on the organization and conduct of field and classroom practices.
