Innovative development of a place is necessary associated with the individual positioning of the place. Europe consists of more than 100 thousand competing territorial units, which need to attract the potential consumers by means of creating a bright and actual image. Without having the unique, characteristic image, a potentially attractive place can remain unnoticed on the enormous European location market. The objective of this research is improving our understanding of a place image and its influence on competitiveness of the location. Over the last decades, the emotional essence of place image has made considerable impact on economic and demographic development of places. This project will allow us to study quantitatively the increasing value of a place image as determinative of its appeal. Our project, thus, aspires to improve measurements of features of a place image for the purpose of management on the level of location attractiveness. The research into and expression of geographical identity of a place is convenient to carry out, using the image of a Dragon as the personification of «genius loci». The methodology is confirmed on the example of a number of cities in the southeast area of Bulgaria.

The topic dealt with in the paper is very timely and has assumed major importance from the viewpoint of development of research into economies based on sustainable development and application of research findings in specific solutions in the economy. The paper postulates that innovation is a fundamental and necessary instrument for implementing sustainable development throughout the whole economy. In order to confirm the thesis, first the paper attempts to identify the role of innovation in various areas of the economy. Secondly, it identifies the sources of innovation and areas of the economy which most require new innovative solutions. The study is based on literature, both domestic and foreign. The author analyses theoretical and empirical publications available on the market. Older publications turned out to be necessary and helpful in describing the evolution of the approach to sustainable development of the economy from a historical point of view. Newer works provide a basis for the compilation of a vast majority of the paper. The paper is a preliminary step in a more detailed research into various aspects of an economy based on sustainable development.

The aim of the article is to investigate the innovative health technologies in the activity of a Physical Education (PE) teacher. The study of literature indicates the usage of a wide range of health technologies in sport and health promotion practice in modern school. Nonetheless the children’s health status deteriorates daily. A teacher of PE can make a difference by using health technologies not only as a part of PE classes but out-of-school activity. During PE classes we offer to combine innovative health technologies with the implementation of the program «Physical Education. 1-4 forms of contemporary school». This program includes two sections. Disclosing the content of the first section «Theoretical and Methodological Training» a PE trainer may teach the pupils the basics of hygienic morning exercises, breathing exercises, and tempering methods using cartoons, movies and animations. The second section of the program includes seven areas, each of which can have a health promotion background. «School of motion culture with the elements of gymnastics» can be realized through stretching, Callanetics, Pilates, and sound exercises. «School of movement» can be carried out by varieties of dancing movements and «School of ball» by football exercises or by the elements of calisthenics. «School of jumps» is implemented through the exercises of health-improving aerobics and rope-skipping, and «School of active rest» – through diverse exercises of psychogymnastics, music and color therapy. «School of physical qualities promotion» can be realized through yoga, slide aerobics, and fitness as well as «School of posture» can be carried out by the elements of remedial gymnastics, yoga, and choreography. A modern PE teacher can control sport and health promotion process in extracurricular time creating his own section on school web page thereby communicating with parents and placing information about sport and health promotion events. So, a teacher of PE can significantly contribute to pupils’ health formation and promotion. In the perspective of further scientific investigations we plan to broaden the recommendations as for the e-database creation in health promotion sector for pupils and their parents.

In the article the authors discuss the practical implementation of the model work with a plastically gifted child “Science – Art – Education”, founded at the end of 2013. As a result of implementation of the international research project. The resulting model, from the theoretical point of view, has been described in the scientific monograph edited by J. Aksman: Science – Art – Education. Innovative model of diagnosis, methods and forms of work and care for plastically gifted children. This model shows the importance of science in early school education through art, based on the innovative combination of art education and health education of children in grades 1–3 of primary school. The consequence of this combination is the intention of the authors of the project to shape life skills of the mentioned children. Theoretically reasoned innovative model Science – Art – Education (SAE) was extremely important but the initial stage of the work. Another one, which has now been adopted and which is described in the article – is associated with a wider than before application of this innovative model – with an attempt of its implementation in everyday practice of art lessons with pupils in early school age. This task involves a further, currently implemented on a research project The effectiveness of the model of work with a plastically gifted child “Science – Art – Education” in the three-year cycle of lessons (WPiNH/DS/5/2015) directed by J. Aksman. The attempts to further applications of the Innovative Model into daily teaching practice and forms of its popularization are very important and they are described in this article: – the creation by J. Aksman and J. Gabzdyl and publishing by Oficyna Wydawnicza AFM (Publishing House AFM) methodological studies in early school age and materials for students as well as teachers who have been currently participating in the model SAE under the guidance of J. Aksman in Województwo małopolskie (Lesser Poland Voivodeship); – the introduction of newer and newer appropriate contents to the educational programs of students majoring in Pedagogy at Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Academy in Cracow; – training of professionally active teachers of Województwo małopolskie (Lesser Poland Voivodeship); – as well as training of scientific staff and students Educational faculty at Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica, implemented within the framework of international cooperation, including participation of J. Aksman and J. Gabzdyl in a research project Strategy in the education of art – the creation of new models and study materials for courses (KEGA č. 036UMB-4/2015) under the guidance of L. Kasáčová.

The development of libraries and their services depends on technological development, the users’ needs and socioeconomic conditions. Innovative libraries as the pioneers in implementing cutting-edge solutions lead the way in showing the direction of changes. The innovations implemented by libraries are aresponse to global trends, changing needs and users’ expectations. The article presents an overview of factors and phenomena which inspire libraries to use cutting-edge solutions and create new initiatives that will define the roles and responsibilities of the libraries of the future regarding research libraries, with particular reference to academic libraries. The analyses were based on the research institutions and libraries’ reports which define the trends and recommendations in shaping the structures and tasks of the innovative libraries. The main document of this type is the report prepared by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) defining the library of the future as an open and interactive library of knowledge which create aglobal network. The analyzed documents describe the research tasks of libraries and highlight the development of research and academic libraries’ responsibilities towards transforming libraries into cultural centres. The documents also emphasize the libraries’ social role not only in the research and academic community, but also at the local and national levels.

Modern theories are increasingly focusing on innovations. Scientific literature states that the implementation of innovations causes increase in sales volume: enterprises are improving the organization of production and trade methods, reducing production and trade costs, producing and selling competitive products as a result of technological progress. Technological progress also influences the development of production and trade prospects. Although the implementation of innovations is different, the main aspects are related to the novelty of product, production and service R&D intensity and the qualification of employees. Enterprises without the capacity to innovate may invest time and resources in studies of research results but are unable to transform this knowledge into practice (Hult et al., 2004). In such sense it is important to create innovative behaviors and related outcomes on country level (Koellinger, Thurik, 2009). Production and trade enterprises have a significant impact on the national economy, but the number of enterprises that have excellent understanding about innovations and their results is not sufficient. Sales of the trade enterprises in the European Union amount to 66%, and 74% of gross domestic product (GDP) in Lithuania. At the same time sales of the production enterprises in the European Union amount to 15.5% of GDP, and in Lithuania — 21% of GDP. Production and trade enterprises play a significant part among business companies. In corporate structure of the European Union 9.8% of companies are production companies which employ 22.6% of EU workers, while in the structure of the European Union 28.6% of companies are trade companies and these companies employ 24.7% of EU workers. However, in the trade sector there are 90% of companies, and in the production — 84% of companies with up to nine employees (Euro-stat, 2010). Nevertheless, the European Commission’s (2013) study shows the declining contribution of production enterprises to GDP. Eurostat (2010) statistics show that small and medium-sized manufacturing companies are very slow to improve their operations and labor productivity. The EU companies are anticipated to increase by only 2.4% compared with the US companies, where growth of labor productivity is 3.5% Therefore, innovations are also important for the EU trade and production companies. To sum up the above set out material, it can be said that the application of innovations must be considered as a very complex cognitive subject. The article consists of three parts to fully examine the implementation of innovations in production and trade enterprises. First, literature analysis is carried out and topic related aspects are identified. In the second part the paper presents empirical research methodology. Herein, practices of production and trade enterprises are presented, comparison of production and trade enterprises is carried out, and effects on the activeness of enterprises regarding the opportunities of innovation implementation in this area are analyzed. In the third part the article presents empirical research results, conclusions and recommendations. Literature analysis reveals that the greatest role innovation plays in international companies, however the number of such enterprises is very small in the EU. The results also show that production and trade companies from Luxembourg have higher competitiveness than the enterprises from other countries. Overall the paper glances into whether, to what extent, how companies innovate, and how this differs between production and trade service industries.

New technologies in respect of security make it necessary for the overall national sector for research and innovations to undertake a strategy that is well-thought-out and coordinated with the aims of the state administration departments which relate to internal and external security. In Poland, the European Union plays a crucial role in defining priorities and funding research, in particular the ‘Horizon 2020’ research programme. However, the national programmes are also of great importance. The aim of this article is to introduce innovations for security which are the result of research and development projects. New technologies which directly influence security will be presented on the basis of the Police Academy, Szczytno, which applies for financial help for education in national and international competitions. Within the national resources, the institution takes part in the competitions of the National Centre for Research and Development, as well as in national and regional operational programmes. The projects conducted are mainly projects which are used in and for industry, or they are development programmes for specific consumers within the broadly understood area of security. The Police Academy, Szczytno, conducts intensive work of innovative nature in the field of security subsequent to receiving resources for projects and this is presented in great detail by the authors. The objective defined in the paper’s introduction is achieved by means of showing the full meaning of new technologies for security. This is presented through descriptions of particular projects.

This article presents different models of innovation processes and focuses in particular on the open innovation. The empirical part is based on the findings on the innovation cooperation of enterprises in the EU and OECD (these data, among others, determine the open innovation). At the end of the article there is a case study of Nokia which implements the open innovation in its innovation activity. The aim of this article is to present the paradigm of the open innovation processes. This approach concentrates on sharing knowledge, i.e. making new solutions available to other units by means of e.g. license sale. The open innovation business model takes advantage of both internal and external sources of ideas without a fear that a company's own ideas when transferred to another organization will lead to the company's loss of profits coming from this idea. The formal framework of an organization is just a symbolic one and makes the flow of knowledge between the organization and its environment possible. The enterprises that adopt the open innovation strategy both enthusiastically develop ideas which were created by others as well as make their own ideas available to other organizations that find them more interesting.

The paper deals with the relation between income inequality, innovation processes, economic development and income convergence within the European Union. The presented results suggest a non-linear relation between the economic development and the income inequality. There is also visible the significant influence of innovation activity and technology diffusion on the economic growth. We could observe strong and stable innovation-related polarisation into two different groups of countries in the European Union, as well as a phenomena that countries considered as technological followers imitate the innovation leaders very quickly. The real convergence occurs on the international scale, but not at the regional level. It seems that the latest tendency will remain in the future.

Proficiency in any foreign language or languages is very inspirational. Infinite desire, tough self-discipline and personal attempts are vitally important factors in foreign language learning. Unfortunately, this idea ends when learning difficulties appear. They can stop learners and isolate them from future progress. According to the scholars and practitioners, there is a solution – to make learning more modernized by incorporating virtual and global technologies. This study will investigate the issue of effectiveness of foreign language learning in the context of globality and virtuality discourses. Nowadays young people represent the global digital generation that demonstrates excessive and habitual use of technologies. Considering that issue, the article discusses the controversial role of globality and virtuality in learning a foreign language.
