W literaturze dominuje pogląd, że - przy wszystkich niedogodnościach - podjęcie przez władze fiskalne i monetarne koordynacji decyzji daje lepsze efekty niż powstrzymanie się od niej. W tekście postawiono tezę, że nie jest celowe, ani możliwe określenie obiektywnie optymalnego typu interakcji między rządem a bankiem centralnym. Na podstawie analizy ustalono, iż wspomniany pogląd ma charakter normatywny i dyskusyjny. Co więcej, wskazano na zawarte w nim uproszczenia odnośnie do instytucjonalnych ram interakcji między rządem a bankiem centralnym, co zmniejsza operacyjną przydatność twierdzenia o wyższości współdziałania nad wzajemnymi dostosowaniami ex post o charakterze gry

Monetary and fiscal coordination is extensively discussed in economic publications. The debate involves both mainstream and institutional economics as well as political sciences. The article contributes to this debate. It reviews theoretical positions adopted in macroeconomics and examines various aspects of the macroeconomic policy mix. In the analysis the author puts forward a clear thesis: it seems doubtful to define an optimal interaction between the government and the central bank because of the changeable institutional framework of the policy coordination.
