Kinezika ve výuce cizím jazykům: přehledová studie

This review paper aims to present a survey of the current state of scientific knowledge in a particular area of non-verbal communication, for which the scientific name – kinesics – became known. The paper aims to define kinesics, to present current terminology, to summarize theoretical approaches to the field, to discuss the kinesics signal as a sign, and to present the results of empirical studies of kinesics signals in foreign/second language teaching and learning. The first part of the paper analyses the theory, especially the historical development of the field and its basic notions. The second part discusses the kinesics signal as a sign. The third part presents the results of empirical studies of kinesics signals; the object of this study are foreign/second language teachers, students, intercultural aspects of kinesics signals, and didactic function of kinesics signals in lingual didactics. Not many studies of kinesics signals have been conducted in the field of foreign/second language teaching and learning. Researches are engaged in rather different areas of nonverbal communication, such as gestures and proxemics. Nevertheless, the results of solitary research studies of kinesics signals appear to be interesting for the educational process, language teachers and their professional development.

Pressures in the contemporary marketing environment are getting bigger and companies and marketers are required to know consumers and their purchase and information behaviour. In this article we studied the behaviour of consumers and the factors of purchase and information behaviour of young consumers when choosing clothes. We found out about the meaning of individual clothing characteristics having impact on the purchase decision making (price, trademark, fitting of clothing, design, quality, etc.). Consumers receive and look for information at different sources (radio commercials, TV commercials and shows, fashion magazines, catalogue sales, social networks, friends and acquaintances, etc.). With the empiric research we wanted to find out to what measure individual sources influence the purchase decision of an individual. We studied young people aged from 15 to 24 in the countries of the EU (Slovenia, Austria and Germany) and the United States of America. We especially focused on characteristic differences. Knowing intercultural differences is important for global companies of the clothing industry for forming their marketing strategies. On the sample of 440 young people who took part in the survey we found out that intercultural differences exist regarding the influence of individual information sources and regarding the factors of purchase decision making. Considering the stated we propose companies operating in global markets on both continents to prepare differentiated marketing strategies.

The paper reports on a study with over 600 respondents (EFL students) from 18 countries, concerning their personal approach to mastering two selected topics (Clothes and Sport). The hypotheses and the major conclusions relate to four facets – structure, lexis, correctness, fluency – which are presented in the paper as components to which L2 students need to be positively oriented to fully master any given topic. The study reveals structural orientation (within and across topics) to be approached least positively and, contrary to initial expectations – correct use of language being as much desired as the mastery of lexis and attainment of fluency. Most crucial empirical observations concern intercultural differences detected on the topical level, discrepancies between declared practices and indecisiveness in learning, and resignation from learning habits boosting control over the language learnt. The study is grounded in the concept of ‘composing one’s own English’ as a personalised approach conducive to what is referred in the paper as formal control over it.

The founding text for the new current in modern philosophy—experimental philosophy—can be seen in Jonathan Weinberg, Shaun Nichols and Stephen Stich’s “Normativity and Epistemic Intuitions” (2001). The authors describe in this article a study to prove cross-cultural differences in epistemic intuitions. On the basis of their results, they argue that since epistemic intuitions seem to serve a crucial role in the use of thought experiments, contemporary philosophical methodology is highly unjustified. That study has brought about at least three replication attempts (Seyedsayamdost 2015; Kim, Yuan 2015; Nagel, San Juan, Mar 2013). None of them confirmed the original results. The aim of this article is to critically analyze in detail Weinberg, Nichols and Stich’s methodology and the three replications mentioned. Regarding the results of my analysis, I will try to examine what conclusions can be drawn with regard to the outcomes of analized studies. In particular I will refer to far-reaching conclusions about the universality of epistemic intuitions or universality of folk epistemology, which are sometimes—hastily, as I will argue—extrapolated from the results of such kind of studies (e.g., Kim, Yuan 2015; Kim Yuan 2016).

The article aims to indicate the need to train the skill to make intertextual relationships. The article focuses in particular on the academic teaching level, as the ability to operate someone else’s word is its vital element. The publication proves that the need to train this skill stems from a number of reasons: the need to meet the requirements for academic texts, the high didactic value of incorporating source texts into the written production process and the unsatisfactory level of students’ ability to create intertextual relationships.

Ethical and methodologically correct diagnosis of a child hearing Deaf parents requires a specialist with extensive knowledge. In every society there are people who use the visual-spatial language – they are deaf people. They are perceived by the majority as disabled people, less frequently as a cultural minority. The adoption of a particular attitude towards the perception of deafness determines the context of the psychologist’s assessment. Diagnosis in such a specific situation shouldbe viewed from the perspective of a child hearing as a bi-cultural person, a descendant of a Deaf parent – a representative of the Deaf culture and himself a psychologist representing the cultural majority of hearing people.

Living abroad, adapting to a new environment and a new mentality of people and adopting a new identity as a foreigner is a very psychologically demanding process by all means. For this reason, a Facebook group “Czechs abroad: be yourself even abroad” was formed. It aims to support and inspire Czechs in a similar life situation abroad.

Žít v cizině, adaptovat se na nové prostředí a novou mentalitu obyvatel a přijmout novou identitu cizince je všestranně náročný proces. Z toho důvodu vznikla Facebooková skupina „Češi v zahraničí: Sám sebou i v cizině”, která si klade za cíl vzájemnou podporu a inspiraci Čechů v podobné životní situaci v cizině.

The mass sexual assaults on western women on the streets of German cities on New Year’s Eve 2015 committed by the migrants coming from non-European cultures caused a media panic which focused on the safety of western women in the context of the migration crisis. The likelihood of successful social and cultural integration of minorities originating in non-European cultures, especially in the Muslim minority, came back to the public debate. Perception of the role which the intercultural differences had in the New Year’s Eve assaults – which was underestimated by the liberal-left circles and overemphasized by the right-wing ones became a contentious issue. The aim of this article is to diagnose the role of cultural and non-cultural factors (social, biological, psychological, demographic, economic and technological) in the mass sexual assaults on western women committed by the foreigners. Only an accurate identification of the role which the intercultural differences played in these events will help us correctly select and structure prevention integration programmes addressed to the migrants coming from non-European countries. In conclusion, the article presents an initial evaluation of prevention programmes implemented in Germany.

Wypadki grupowego molestowania seksualnego zachodnich kobiet na ulicach niemieckich miast w noc sylwestrową 2015 roku przez migrantów z kultur pozaeuropejskich sprowokowały medialną panikę dotyczącą bezpieczeństwa zachodnich kobiet w warunkach kryzysu migracyjnego. W debacie publicznej powróciło pytanie o możliwość integracji społeczno-kulturowej mniejszości wywodzących się z kultur pozaeuropejskich, szczególnie zaś mniejszości muzułmańskiej. Kwestią sporną stała się ocena roli różnic międzykulturowych w wydarzeniach sylwestrowych – niedocenianych przez środowiska liberalno-lewicowe i przecenianych przez środowiska prawicowe. Celem artykułu jest diagnoza roli czynników kulturowych obok czynników pozakulturowych (społecznych, biologicznych, psychologicznych, demograficznych, ekonomicznych i technologicznych) w aktach grupowego molestowania zachodnich kobiet przez obcokrajowców. Od trafnego rozpoznania roli różnic międzykulturowych w tych wydarzeniach zależy trafność doboru i konstrukcji prewencyjnych programów integracyjnych skierowanych do migrantów z krajów pozaeuropejskich. Artykuł kończy wstępna ocena programów prewencyjnych realizowanych w Niemczech.

В последние годы чрезвычайно возрос интерес к процессу межкультурной коммуникации, а также к способам достижения эффективности общения. В связи c этим, при обучении иностранному языку актуальным стал вопрос о необходимости обучения иноязычному коммуникативному поведению. Расхождения в нормах и традициях разных народов, особенно в условиях непосредственной межкультурной коммуникации, нередко являются причиной коммуникативного шока, а также культурного шока, которые негативно сказываются на общении. Именно поэтому обучение речевым навыкам должно осуществляться наряду с обучением иноязычному коммуникативному поведению. Углубление знаний о стране и менталитете народа изучаемого языка обеспечивает выработку толерантного отношения к образу жизни иностранцев.

In the last years, the interest in intercultural communication process and ways of obtaining the effectivity of communication has considerably increased. Thus, in the foreign language teaching, the problem of necessity of teaching foreign language behaviour has become up-to-date. Differences in the norms and traditions of different nations, especially in the conditions of direct intercultural communication, are often the reason of communication shock and cultural shock which influence negatively the process of communication. For that reason, the forming of speech should be accomplished simultaneously with teaching foreign language communicative behaviour. Deepening the knowledge about the country and mentality of the nation of the taught language secures forming a tolerant attitude towards a different way of life.
