Intercultural education advances the comprehension of different people and cultures. It emphasizes teaching that accepts and respects that diversity is normal in all areas of life. It attempts to sensitize the pupil to the concept that we all have developed in varied ways and that different does not mean “wrong”. In the presented article, we deal with a term defined in the context of intercultural education. We think about the way of its implementation in primary education, while respecting all the attributes of cultural differentiation. Intercultural education examines forms of xenophobia, trying to diminish them, and advocates equal opportunities for all. Intercultural education works to modify individuals and institutions and so transform the society (What is intercultural education? Do we in the West have the materials to accomplish this in our classrooms?).

The article explores intercultural differences between East and West throughout cultural dimensions and literature. Already existing sociological research is supplemented with literary one, thus creating a modern way of performing research in the field of interculture. Hofstede’s cultural dimensions became the basis of the presented research as well as literary texts originally written in English, whose plot is set in the selected Muslim countries (Iran and Afghanistan).

W artykule opisano różnice międzykulturowe między Wschodem i Zachodem w wymiarze kulturowym oraz w literaturze. Istniejące badania socjologiczne są uzupełniane badaniami literackimi, co stanowi nowoczesny sposób prowadzenia badań w dziedzinie międzykulturowej. Kulturowe wymiary Hofstede stały się podstawą przedstawionych badań, a także tekstów literackich pierwotnie napisanych w języku angielskim, których fabuła rozgrywa się w wybranych krajach muzułmańskich (Iran i Afganistan).

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie roli francuskiej platformy e-learningowej Arche w systemie studiów na odległość Érudi, Études et Ressources Universitaires à Distance oraz w nauczaniu języka polskiego na Uniwersytecie Lotaryńskim (UL) w Nancy. W pierwszej części przybliżono pokrótce cele, motywy nauczania języków obcych oraz zarys historyczny platformy Arche. Następnie podjęto próbę scharakteryzowania profilu studentów podejmujących naukę języka polskiego na odległość za pośrednictwem Érudi w latach 2009-2015. Skoncentrowano się również na specyficznych zagadnieniach nauczania języka polskiego z wykorzystaniem materiałów multimedialnych oraz platformy Érudi, zwłaszcza w przypadku gramatyki oraz rozumienia ze słuchu. Na zakończenie przedstawiono aktualne sposoby nauczania języka polskiego na odległość na UL oraz propozycje usprawnienia funkcjonowania platformy i metod nauczania języka polskiego w ramach e-learningu, które stanowią część moich badań w przygotowywanej rozprawie doktorskiej.

The purpose of this article is to present the role of the French e-learning platform Arche in teaching Polish at the University of Lorraine in Nancy. In the first part I will present briefly the objectives and historical review of the platform Arche. Then I will attempt to characterize the profile of students choosing online classes of Polish language between 2009-2015. I will focus also on specific issues of Polish language teaching with the use of multimedia and platform especially for grammar and comprehension. At the end of the article I will present practiced ways of online teaching Polish at the University of Lorraine and proposals to improve the functioning of the platform and methods of teaching Polish.
