The Society for the Friends of the Stefan Batory University Library in Vilnius was active during 1924–1939. Initiated and established by the University’s Rector, Professor Alfons Parczewski, the Society’s purpose was attending to the needs of the Library as well as supporting its interests and development. For this purpose, the Society made every effort to arouse interest in the Library’s affairs throughout the broadest range of society. It found and obtained for the Library valuable publications and manuscripts, solicited and collected financial gifts for the Library’s needs and organized and supported exhibits inside the Library itself. Count Marian Broel-Plater presided over the Society during all the years of its existence.
