As the m ain channels of disseminating research, the scientific journals (especially international ones) are often the subject of analysis. The automated information systems designed by experts in the field of scientific information effectively facilitate the surveys. A similar analysis for national journals was not feasible for years, due to insufficient automation and contents of national scientific information systems. In Poland (as in m any other countries where English is not dominant language in economics), academic periodicals in economics are main publication forum and remain unknown to foreign researches. It is interesting to survey these national journals, especially after 1989. Polish journals in economics were chosen therefore as the subject of the study. They have been analyzed with the support of the databases of the Main Library of the University of Economics in Cracow (UEK). The analysis of four journals in economics ("Bank i Kredyt" — "Bank and Credit", "Ekonomista", "Gospodarka Narodowa" — "National Economy" and "Przegląd Statystyczny" — "Statistical Review") during the years 2003-2007 was carried out for: a) the evaluation of their own impact on the rest of journals indexed in UEK databases; b) the evaluation of other journals impact on the journal surveyed; c) finding to what extent journals cited by economists in Polish journals are similar to those cited in international economics journals indexed in RePEc and SCOPUS databases.
