As regards both the material used and technology applied, and way of construction, the rural architecture of Czechoslovakia is usually divided into four districts, i.e. the areas of occurrence of the clay house, wooden house, stone house and brick house. These are subdivided into regions which, in one case, are furthe r subdivided into regional complexes. Areas, regions and regional complexes are situated within the borders of geographical divisions of Czechoslovakia. The author presents characteristic features of particular houses situated in different parts of the country. Historical monuments register contains about 600 objects of ru ra l architecture. They were grouped according to there aspects: 1) material and technology, 2) regional aspects, 3) social function. Such a division makes it possible to systematize a number of relations occurring between particular aspects.
