Professor Father Alojzy Szorc belonged to a group of eminent historians dealing with the history of Warmia. Their exploring dealt with for fifty years. His works have a lot of valuable papers. Under his interests were, among others, great figures associated with Warmia. Most of the space and time devoted person of the Bishop of Warmia Cardinal Stanislaus Hosius. However, he also had in mind always the person Canon of Warmia Nicolaus Copernicus, but systematic research on this character was not involved, although it has collected a lot of material. Rather occasionally returned, with organized on the anniversary and anniversaries. For several years he worked with the Department of Research Copernican organized at the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, mainly at the level of editing. His achievements associated with a person Copernicus, Father. Szorc has a small size book of a popular (two editions), several articles and papers presented, also not finished editing the minutes of the meetings of the Warmia Chapter from a time when Copernicus was one of that Chapter.
This paper presents the scholarly output of Bishop Jan W. Obłąk concerning the history of the Diocese of Warmia. The subject matter of the undertaken studies is wide and covers the history from the 16th to the 20th century. Bishop Obłąk devoted most space to the Polish Catholic population, but he also wrote about great figures connected with Warmia, such as Nicolaus Copernicus, Stanisław Hozjusz or Ignacy Krasicki. In his works, he also commemorated the Warmia Chapter, school institutions in Braniewo – the “Hosianum” seminary and the Jesuit college. He also wrote about monastic congregations in Warmia and many matters related to religious worship. He based his studies on a reliable source base. With his research work, he contributed to building the scientific community of Olsztyn historians.

W niniejszym przedłożeniu przedstawiono dorobek naukowy biskupa Jana W. Obłąka, dotyczący dziejów diecezji warmińskiej. Problematyka podejmowanych opracowań jest szeroka i obejmuje okres od XVI do XX wieku. Najwięcej miejsca biskup Obłąk poświęcił polskiej ludności katolickiej, ale pisał też o wielkich postaciach związanych z Warmią, m.in. o Mikołaju Koperniku, Stanisławie Hozjuszu czy też Ignacym Krasickim. W swoich pracach upamiętnił ponadto kapitułę warmińską oraz uczelnie w Braniewie – seminarium duchowne „Hosianum” i kolegium jezuickie. Pisał również o zgromadzeniach zakonnych na Warmii i wielu sprawach związanych z kultem religijnym. Swoje opracowania opierał na rzetelnej podstawie źródłowej. Pracą badawczą włączył się w budowanie środowiska naukowego historyków olsztyńskich.
