The globalization of knowledge which has affected all scientific fields, including Humanities, stimulated research into the exchange of knowledge in the field of German, Russian, Caucasian linguistics. One of the most interesting and important pages of Kartvelology is the scientific dialogue of Hugo Schuhardt, a famous Austrian philologist, with scientists, writers and public figures of Georgia on the issues of the Georgian language and culture at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It was a difficult period for linguistics when the comparative historical scientific paradigm exhausted its possibilities, and numerous discussions with the neogrammatic hypothesis prevailing at that time were looking for new ways of scientific development that could meet the challenges of the time. Intensive exchange of ideas and scientific controversy contributed to the exchange of knowledge. The article considers the linguistic concepts of the Austrian scientist Hugo Schuhardt and the Caucasian scientist Niko Marr (Georgia, Russia) who entered the history of linguistics as ‘dissidents of Indo-Europeanism.

Niniejszy artykuł dotyczy tematyki, jakiej poświęcona była polsko-brytyjska konferencja, która odbyła się w maju 2016 r. na Wydziale Architektury Politechniki Wrocławskiej. Rozważano wówczas możliwość zastosowania metodyki oceny funkcjonowania budynku (BPE) rozwiniętej w Wielkiej Brytanii do polskiego kontekstu. Artykuł został opracowany na podstawie wcześniejszych doświadczeń autora z prowadzenia rządowego programu badań BPE w Wielkiej Brytanii oraz obserwacji i prezentacji innych prelegentów, wygłoszonych podczas wyżej wymienionego spotkania. Autor wykorzystał te obserwacje i odniósł się do podstawowych i stosowanych badań prowadzonych w Wielkiej Brytanii w celu dokonania pewnych porównań pomiędzy Polską a Zjednoczonym Królestwem. Porównanie takie zostało dokonane w nadziei, że podstawowe badania nad oceną funkcjonowania budynku będą mogły być przeprowadzone w przyszłości w Polsce.

This paper discusses the industry driven content of the May 2016 Poland/UK bilateral conference and the potential of building performance evaluation in Poland. It is based on the author’s experience of leading a major UK government funded building performance evaluation programme and observations and presentations given at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology conference. The author has used these observations and referred to primary and secondary research carried out in the UK in order to draw some comparisons between Poland and the UK. It is hoped that primary research in to building performance evaluation can be carried out in Poland in the future.
