Pedagogical essay is a paper written by students, with diversified exercise values, which helps them master hermeneutic and writing competencies, while being a tool for the academic teacher to learn more about the students and to evaluate the quality of one’s own curriculum and classes. The expectations regarding the potential of the essay, however, can go much further. Essay offers a real breakthrough in teaching as a process. The objective of the study is to show possible relations between essay and pedagogy, as well as multiple functions essay can have in academic teaching.

Esej pedagogiczny to praca pisemna studentów o zróżnicowanych walorach ćwiczebnych, umożliwiająca doskonalenie kompetencji hermeneutycznych i pisarskich autorów, a ponadto – stanowi narzędzie w rękach nauczyciela akademickiego pozwalające poznać studenta lepiej oraz dokonać ewaluacji i oceny jakości własnych programów i ćwiczeń. Oczekiwania wobec potencjału eseju mogą być znacznie większe, dzięki jego walorom można dokonać przemiany w samej dydaktyce. Celem opracowania jest ukazanie możliwych związków eseju z pedagogiką oraz jego wielorakich funkcji w dydaktyce akademickiej.

This paper is devoted to hermeneutic competences of pedagogy students – future pedagogues, as the problem is currently important, socially, pedagogically and methodologically justified. Thus, it presents not only the essence of these competences, as the author mainly tried to reveal broad (occurring outside university) and narrow (inherent to it) background of their conditionings and systemically approached the determinants of modelling. In consequence, the reflection leads to formulating postulates possible to be implemented in pedagogical education on the academic level within bottom-up actions which could be the basis for further, broader changes.

Niniejszy tekst został poświęcony kompetencjom hermeneutycznym studentów pedagogiki – przyszłych pedagogów, jako że problem ten jest aktualnie ważny, uzasadniony społecznie, pedagogicznie i metodologicznie. Przedstawiono zatem nie tylko istotę tychże kompetencji, bowiem starano się głównie o to, aby odsłonić szerokie (występujące poza szkołą wyższą) i wąskie (tkwiące w niej) tło ich uwarunkowań oraz systemowo ujęte determinanty modelowania. W konsekwencji namysł ten poprowadził do sformułowania postulatów możliwych do wdrożenia w kształceniu pedagogicznym na szczeblu akademickim w ramach działań oddolnych, które mogłyby stanowić podstawę do dalszych i szerszych zmian.
