The titular conference was held on 30 March 2009 in the Column Hall of the Sejm (Parliament) of the Republic of Poland under the honorary patronage of the Speaker of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland and the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. The event was organised by the Polish UNESCO Committee in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The organisation of the conference was dictated by the need to bring the participants closer to the question of balanced development and the necessity of recalling the ideas expressed in the UNESCO conventions and other documents. Outstanding specialists in economy, the sociology of culture, cultural studies, architecture, education and culture management were invited to present papers on Culture as a Condition for Contemporary Development and Cultural Heritage, Spatial Order, Civic Society. Numerous statements expressed the necessity of continuing such an interdisciplinary approach towards culture. Emphasis was also placed on the extremely important role played by cultural education on the social and decision-making levels. The majority of the presented papers were issued in a special-occasion publication.
