La figura de Ignacio Domeyko (1802-1889) es muy bien conocida y su vida está bien documentada en la historiografía mundial. Por eso, nos podemos llevar la impresión de que en su biografía no hay lagunas y que todas las fuentes sobre él ya han sido investigadas y elaboradas. No obstante, no es así. El objetivo del presente artículo es aproximar al lector el contenido de los manuscritos de la Biblioteca de los Príncipes Czartoryski que revelan algunos episodios desconocidos de la historia personal de Domeyko. Se trata, entre otros, del viaje realizado en el otoño de 1836 por el sur de Francia en compañía del joven Vitoldo Czartoryski (1822-1965). Fue un año antes de la partida de Domeyko hacia América del Sur. Ese acontecimiento se presentará en el marco de las relaciones de Domeyko con la familia de Czartoryski, con un enfoque de los lazos patrióticos que les eran comunes. Ignacio Domeyko, igual como los Czartoryski, vivió en los tiempos cuando su país, a consecuencia de las particiones realizadas por Rusia, Prusia y Austria, había sido borrado del mapa de Europa. Ellos nunca lo aceptaron y participaron en la lucha por la resurrección de Polonia y se empeñaron en mantener la identidad nacional polaca. Reflexionaremos también sobre cómo el viaje y la mutua relación influyeron en Domeyko y la familia Czartoryski.

The figure of Ignacio Domeyko (1802-1889) is well known and his life is well documented in world historiography. Therefore, it can bring us the impression that there are no gaps in his biography and all sources about him have been investigated and developed. However, it is not. The aim of this paper is to approach to the reader the content of the manuscripts deposited in the Library of the Czartoryski Princes, unknown episodes that reveal some of the personal history of Domeyko. Among others, it is the trip in the fall of 1836 by the South of France in the company of young Vitoldo Czartoryski (1822-1965), which took place a year before Domeyko’s departure to South America. That event will be presented in the context of relations with the family of Czartoryski, with a focus on the common patriotic ties. Ignacio Domeyko, just as the Czartoryski, lived at the time when his country, as a result of partitions made by Russia, Prussia and Austria, had been wiped off the map of Europe. They never accepted it and participated in the struggle for the resurrection of Poland and were determined to keep the polish national identity. We will also try to consider how the mentioned trip and mutual relationship influenced so Domeyko as Czartoryski family.
