The article reconstructs the most important issues on the map of Polish lager prose, those that are ignored, inconvenient for readers or authors, and sometimes for both. The author of the essay also presents the zones of silence that resulted not from the threat of violation of social taboos and political prohibitions, but from the negligence of researchers. They characterize the most important tasks facing scholars of Polish lager prose.

The study deals with the capturing of prisoners by the Red Army, taking control over Transylvania in the fall of 1944. More precisely, it presents the deportation of Hungarian civilians from Kolozsvár (today: Cluj-Napoca, Romania), took over in only a few days, immediately after the entering of the Soviet troops in the city, in October 1944. The main objective of this study is to realize an analysis on this capturing, in order to present the methods used by the Soviet Union in collecting manpower for rebuilding of the country, all over Eastern Europe, at the end ofWorldWar II. There are described the circumstances of capturing the prisoners, the number of those taken away, the routes of their deportation, the locations of the forced labour camps, the length of the captivity, the number of the victims, and the return of the survivors. With these alltogether, the study aims to offer a comprehensive perspective on a theme being taboo for fourty years under the communist regime in Romania. The source material of the study consists of archival data, specialist books, scientific articles, essays, published recollections, memoires and interviews with survivors made by the author

The aim of the article is to present the typescript of the novella entitled “Naj-większa chwała” along its released version, published under the title “Wigilia w kacecie”. Its author, Fr. Hubert Lach, was a former inmate of the Auschwitz and Mauthausen concentration camps. The author of the study came upon the typescript and the other documents of Fr. Hubert Lach discussed in the text entirely by coincidence while searching the Theological Library of the University of Silesia in 2018. The novella, modified and condensed, was published in the 2010 collection “Camp novellas”. Taking into account the historical context, the author of the article analysed and interpreted the text of the novella, arguing that Fr. Hubert Lach founded the narrative of his numerous works on the letter as a genre of applied literature. The article presents the biographical note of Fr. Hubert Lach and his accomplishments as a writer without providing a critical scientific appraisal of his literature. The focus was placed particularly on the meaning of suffering and the mechanisms of defence against total enslavement as important themes explored in the novella.

Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie maszynopisu noweli, zatytułowanego Największa chwała, oraz jej wersji opublikowanej, która przyjęła tytuł Wigilia w kacecie, autorstwa ks. Huberta Lacha, byłego więźnia obozów koncentracyjnych Auschwitz i Mauthausen. Na maszynopis oraz inne dokumenty ks. Huberta Lacha, które zostały w tekście omówione, autorka opracowania natrafiła przypadkowo, podczas kwerendy w Bibliotece Teologicznej Uniwersytetu Śląskiego w 2018 r. Zmodyfikowana, przede wszystkim zaś skrócona, wersja noweli została opublikowana w 2010 r. w zbiorze Nowele obozowe. Autorka artykułu, uwzględniając kontekst historyczny, poddała analizie i interpretacji tekst noweli, stawiając tezę, że list, jako gatunek literatury użytkowej, stał się dla ks. Huberta Lacha fundamentem, na którym budował narrację swoich licznych utworów. W artykule przybliżono biografię ks. Huberta Lacha oraz jego dorobek pisarski, który nie był naukowo oceniany. Szczególny namysł podjęto nad zagadnieniem związanym z sensem cierpienia i przedstawionymi w noweli mechanizmami obrony przed zniewoleniem totalnym.

The study outlines the capturing of prisoners by the Red Army taking control over Transylvania in the fall of 1944. It presents the second wave of capturing: the deportations in January-February 1945, pronouncedly oriented toward the German community (Transylvanian Saxons and Swabians) primarily living in the Banat. There are described the circumstances of capturing the prisoners, the number of those taken away, the routes of their deportation, the locations and lengths of their captivity, the number of the victims, and the return of the survivors. Finally, the remembrance of the 1945 Soviet deportations, their present social embeddedness is expounded. The source material of the study consists of specialist books, essays, published recollections, and interviews with survivors made by the author and other researchers

L’articolo presenta il volume di Lucyna Sadzikowska intitolato Listy z lagrów i więzień 1939–1945. Wybrane zagadnienia (Lettere dai campi e dalle prigioni 1939–1945. Alcuni aspetti. Katowice 2019). Secondo l’autore dell’articolo, le lettere dei prigionieri dei campi di concentramento e di lavoro costituiscono un’interessante descrizione della realtà concentrazionaria che avvicina il lettore alla letteratura dei documenti personali. L’obiettivo del libro della Sadzikowska è quello di descrivere e codificare le lettere dai campi e dalle prigioni nel loro aspetto teorico e pratico. L’autrice prende in esame la corrispondenza ufficiale e privata dei campi e delle prigioni (per esempio i messaggi segreti e le lettere clandestine), e presenta uno specifico supplemento a questa epistolografia, ovvero le lettere di Gustaw Morcinek. Il volume della Sadzikowska illustra non solo il suo grande impegno nell’analizzare l’aspetto epistolografico dei documenti redatto nel periodo tra il 1939 e il 1945, ma anche la loro forza ispiratrice.

The article discusses Lucyna Sadzikowska’s book entitled Listy z lagrów i więzień 1939–1945. Wybrane zagadnienia (Letters from the Concentration Camps and Prisons 1939–1945. Selected Issues. Katowice 2019). According to the author of the article, the published letters of the inmates kept in concentration and labour camps remain interesting descriptions of the camp reality that redirect the reader towards literature of the personal document. The purpose of Sadzikowska’s book is to describe and codify the prison and camp letter with regard to its theoretical and practical aspects. She analyses and elaborates on official and unofficial camp and prison correspondence (e.g. secret messages, letters smuggled in or out of camps and prisons), and presents a peculiar supplement to this epistolography, that is, the literary letters of Gustaw Morcinek. The reviewed work not only presents the author’s commitment to elaborate on camp and prison epistolography written in the period between 1939 and 1945, but also points out the inspiring potential of personal documents.
