Globalization of business and use of English in corporations as lingua franca has resulted in growing demand for Business English courses in the workplace. This article tries to present a concise profile of an adult language learner in a broader context of adult education and the implications for the Business English classroom. The claim is made that if we want to provide tailormade courses for employees in companies a thorough analysis of their language needs should be carried out first. Explicitly discussed here are the types of adult learner needs in the business context and the methodology which may be employed in determining them.

Na kursach językowych stosuje się różne metody nauczania. Publikacja zawiera aspekty badań uczestnictwa dorosłych w kursach języka angielskiego w Olsztynie i województwie warmińsko-mazurskim. Celem jest ustalenie rozpoznawalności metod nauczania oraz zależności pomiędzy nimi a oceną postępów własnych i kursu. Badania przeprowadzono w szkołach językowych, ośrodkach kształcenia ustawicznego oraz na uniwersytecie trzeciego wieku. Ustalono rozpoznawalność metod oraz wyżej wymienione zależności.

Different teaching methods are applied at language courses. The article covers the aspects of study on participation of adults in language courses in Olsztyn and Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship. The aim is to establish the recognition of teaching methods and relationships between them and the assessment of own progress and the course. The research was carried out at language schools, Continuing Education Centres and the University of Third Age. The recognition of methods and the above relationships were established.
