W artykule poddano analizie słownictwo specjalistyczne z zakresu architektury wyekscerpowane z Budowy kościołów Piotra Aignera. Ustalono, że 38 nazw (31% badanego materiału) to neologizmy Aignera odpowiadające łacińskim terminom architektonicznym (np. głownik to odpowiednik łac. capitellum; łęk to odpowiednik łac. arcus), nieznane XIX-wiecznej polszczyźnie i nieupowszechnione w latach późniejszych. Wykazano, że tworzenie nowych, rodzimych nazw specjalistycznych z zakresu architektury w czasach zaborów należy odczytywać jako przejaw puryzmu językowego, świadectwo traktowania języka jako podstawowego czynnika kształtujący tożsamość narodową.

In the article there is an analysis of specialised vocabulary from the sphere of architecture excerpted from Budowa kościołów written by Piotr Aigner. According to the research 38 names (31% of the investigated material) are neologisms created by Aigner, which are equivalents or translations of their Latin architectural terms (for example, głownik is an equivalent of the Latin word capitellum; łęk – the Latin word arcus), which had not occur in the 19th-century Polish language and were not disseminated later. As it seems creating new specialised native names in the sphere of architecture when Poland was divided by foreign invaders may be interpreted as a kind of language purism, an example of treating the language as a basic factor that shapes the national identity.

The article presents and describes the motives for fighting against loanwords in specialist germanising dictionaries published in 1800-1945. In the history of opposition to loanwords in G ermany, national motives were overtly domineering, sometimes they even transformed into nationalist ones. Apart from that, the following motives appear in purist specialist lexicographic studies: cultural-patriotic (kulturpatriotische Motive), communicative (kommunikative Motive), criticizing language snobbism (verhaltenskritische Motive), esthetic (ästhetische Motive), cognitive (kognitive/erkenntnistheoretische Motive), structural (sprachstrukturelle Motive) and enlightening (bildungspraktische/aufklärerische Motive).

Artykuł przedstawia i opisuje motywy zwalczania wyrazów obcych w specjalistycznych słownikach zniemczających wydanych w latach 1800-1945. W historii walki z wyrazami obcymi w Niemczech dominujące są niewątpliwie motywy narodowe, które niekiedy przybierały formę nacjonalizmu. W purystycznych specjalistycznych pracach leksykograficznych występują też następujące motywy: kulturowo-patriotyczne (kulturpatriotische Motive), komunikacyjne (kommunikative Motive), krytyka snobizmu językowego (verhaltenskritische Motive), motywy estetyczne (ästhetische Motive), kognitywne (kognitive/erkenntnistheoretische Motive), językowo-strukturalne (sprachstrukturelle Motive) i oświeceniowe (bildungspraktische/aufklärerische Motive).

Although we identify a wide range of similarities in the language situation and the standardisation process of Czech, Upper and Lower Sorbian during the end of the 19th century and the first four decades of the 20th century, there are also a number of specifics: in development, Czech was ahead of Upper Sorbian, and in turn, Lower Sorbian reached its "revival" later than Upper Sorbian. Czech reached the stage of a fully functional standard language, while both varieties of Sorbian, in contrast, only achieved a lower stage of development. These specifics result in a differing range of puristic interventions and puristic successes.

Im Beitrag wird der Frage nachgegangen, welche Lemmata in älteren (aus dem 19. Jh.) fremdwortbezogenen Wörterbüchern als Entlehnungen aus dem Arabischen betrachtet wurden und wie sich diese Beschreibungen von denen in den heutigen Wörterbüchern des Deutschen unterscheiden. Aufgrund des heutigen Wissensstands in der Linguistik und speziell in der Etymologie kommt man zu – wenigstens teilweise - anderen Einsichten in die Herkunft des deutschen Wortschatzes. Manche Lemmata, die früher als Arabismen gekennzeichnet wurden, werden heute als direkte Entlehnungen aus dem Französischen, Italienischen, Spanischen o.ä. betrachtet.

German language has been strongly influenced by various languages. First of all, borrowings from Latin and French should be mentioned. The influences of the Arabic language, however, also played a significant role. The paper presents and offers a description of words of Arabic origin in three German dictionaries of borrowings: WIEDEMANN (1811), WANDER (1858), KÖHLER (1882). As it turns out, in modern etymological dictionaries most of these words are not treated as borrowings which entered German directly from Arabic.

Język niemiecki podlegał silnym wpływom ze strony różnych języków. Na pierwszym miejscu należy wspomnieć o zapożyczeniach z łaciny i z języka francuskiego, ale istotną rolę odegrały też wpływy języka arabskiego. Artykuł przedstawia i opisuje arabizmy występujące w trzech niemieckich słownikach zapożyczeń: WIEDEMANN (1811), WANDER (1858), KÖHLER (1882). Okazuje się, że większość tych wyrazów nie jest traktowana we współczesnych słownikach etymologicznych jako zapożyczenia bezpośrednio przejęte do języka niemieckiego z języka arabskiego.

Due to the complicated history between Czechs and Germans, research on names (especially German names) has often been influenced by nationalism and - from the linguistic point of view - purism. Czech authors wanted to improve the Slavic origin of the German place names, thus we can find some false interpretations in their papers. However, more attention has arisen because of the Germanization of Slavic names, which was fixed as a part of the revision after the 1918. The revision after the 1945, when most of the names of the German origin were removed as a symbol of the Germans and German dominance, was more radical. At present, the perception of German place names is changing. As the result we can encounter the rehabilitation or revitalization of these names (especially in the case of non-standardized toponyms or chrematonyms).

Die Sprachpflege ist nicht nur das Anliegen der Sprachwissenschaftler. Die Medien – darunter die auflagenstarken Zeitungen – sind hierfür ein ideales Forum. In dem Artikel wurden mehrere Texte aus Die Welt und Süddeutsche Zeitung der Analyse unterzogen, die den aktuellen Fremdwortfragen (besonders den englischen Entlehnungen) gewidmet sind. Es stellt sich heraus, dass – abgesehen von unterschiedlichen Stellungnahmen – der goldene Mittelweg die Oberhand gewinnt. Außerdem ist es nicht möglich, an verschiedene Sprachschichten, darunter die Fachsprache, nur einen Maßstab zu legen.

The aim of the paper is to show how linguistic topics, in this case the presence of lexicological issues and infiltration of German loanwords in English (ie. anglicisms and pseudo-anglicisms), is presented to average citizens (ie. non-experts) in the German press. It is very important because it allows the social dialogue, which is later used by linguists to put forward proposals and to contribute to the possible modification of vocabulary through a real impact on the shape of the dictionaries and glossaries. The analysis was conducted on the basis of selected articles of the online editions of newspapers Die Welt and Süddeutsche Zeitung.

Troska o poprawność języka to zadanie nie tylko dla językoznawców. Media – w tym gazety wielkonakładowe – są do tego idealnym forum. W artykule przedstawiono kilka tekstów poświęconych ciągle aktualnej dyskusji nt. obcych zapożyczeń w języku niemieckim. Wynika z nich, że mimo różnych stanowisk przeważa pogląd tzw. złotego środka. Poza tym nie można stosować jednej miary do różnych odmian języka, w tym języka fachowego.
