What is the remit of knowledge activated by a translator expected to introduce a new specialized expression? What knowledge and which skills constitute this translator’s construction competence? Which epistemic acts does the translator employ when generating new knowledge, a new specialist lexeme? These questions have prompted research into the constitution of Polish specialist lexemes in the remit of Byzantine music and hymnography. Empirical evidence has been collected on the basis of a translated opinion-forming monograph on the subject and interviews with the translator. The concluding remarks result from an analytical work and can be considered key as regards the subject, methods and objectives of epistemological semantics. Axiological formants, which influence understanding and/or the construction of language-based or cultural acts, can be viewed as the motivation for the present in-depth analysis.

Effects of previous studies show that conceptualization (in general) cannot be distinguished from language conceptualization. Conceptualization and language are interrelated, no matter whether one considers a concrete language of Polish, Greek, Catalan, etc., or a concrete language of mathematics or logic. Can the same be said about conceptualization and specialized conceptualization? Can a distinction be made between these expressions' designata? I answer these questions while referring to results of empirical studies and reflecting on (specialized) cognitive work.
