Misja i funkcja bibliotek zmieniała się na przestrzeni wieków. Obecnie oferta biblioteczna kierowana jest do szerokiego grona odbiorców. Współczesne placówki są najczęściej kreatywnymi miejscami rozwoju i zdobywania wiedzy, które inspirują i zachęcają do wizyt. Wpływ na ich rosnącą popularność ma w dużej mierze i ciekawy design, i wielofunkcyjność ich przestrzeni. W ostatnich latach kwestie te stały się przedmiotem ciekawej dyskusji na portalach bibliotekarskich, blogach, a przede wszystkim w fachowej literaturze zarówno krajowej, jak i zagranicznej. Podejmowany przez autorkę temat ma przybliżyć czytelnikowi nowe trendy w zakresie aranżacji przestrzeni bibliotecznej. Artykuł przybliży odpowiedzi na pytania, skąd czerpać wiedzę na ten temat; jak biblioteki powinny dostosowywać swoje usługi do wymagań czytelników; jak kształtować wielofunkcyjną przestrzeń, by była atrakcyjna; jaka jest rola bibliotekarza w procesie przygotowania i realizacji inwestycji? Dla przykładu, celem ilustracji, przywołano kilkanaście bibliotek o ciekawym wyposażeniu, a także architekturze, które zyskały światowe uznanie. Głównym zamierzeniem artykułu jest zwrócenie uwagi na rolę designu w budowaniu atmosfery i umacnianiu więzi na linii bibliotekarz – czytelnik, jak też na zmianę, jaka zaszła w ostatnich latach w kwestii postrzegania bibliotek, które stały się wielofunkcyjnymi ośrodkami, inspirującymi i zapraszającymi do częstych odwiedzin.

The mission and functions of libraries have changed over centuries. Currently, the offer of libraries is targeted to a wide audience. Modern facilities are the most creative places of development and learning that inspire and encourage visits. Their growing popularity is largely a result of interesting design and versatility of their spaces. In recent years, these issues have become the subject of an interesting discussion of library portals, blogs and above all in research literature, both domestic and foreign. I picked up my theme to bring the reader to the new trends in interior space of the library. I try to answer the question where to get the knowledge about it; how libraries should adapt their services to the needs of readers; how to develop a multi-purpose space that becomes attractive; what is the role of the librarian in preparation and implementation of the investment? For example, I refer to a dozen of libraries with interesting equipment, as well as the architecture to illustrate it, which gained global recognition. My main intention is to draw attention to the role of design in creating a unique atmosphere and strengthening the bonds between librarians and readers as well as the change that has taken place in recent years in terms of perception of libraries that have become multifunctional centres, inspiring and inviting to frequent visits.

Książka jest zbiorem szkiców-wspomnień opowiadających o dziejach Biblioteki Uniwersyteckiej i jej pracownikach w latach 1971–1977. Janusz Tondel, autor wspomnień, historyk książki i bibliotek, przez sześć lat był pracownikiem uniwersyteckiej książnicy, w której poznawał i zgłębiał tajniki sztuki bibliotekarskiej. Jest to także opowieść o dniu codziennym pracowników biblioteki, ich przyzwyczajeniach i pasjach, ale też o organizowanych imprezach, balach. W podzielonej na dwie części publikacji zostało opisane życie w dwóch budynkach uniwersyteckiej książnicy. W pierwszym, starym gmachu położonym na Bydgoskim Przedmieściu, biblioteka działała w latach 1947–1973. W drugim, nowoczesnym i funkcjonalnym obiekcie na toruńskich Bielanach, funkcjonuje od maja 1973 r. do dnia dzisiejszego. Publikację uzupełniają liczne fotografie ze zbiorów biblioteki oraz archiwów jej pracowników.

The book constitutes a collection of memoirs referring to the University Library and its employees in the years 1971–1977. The author of the memoirs, the historian of books and libraries worked in the University Library for six years. The book is also a story about the daily life of library workers, their habits and passions, events and parties organized by them. The publication is divided into two parts, in which the life in two buildings of the university library was described. In the first old building situated in Bydgoskie Przedmieście , the library operated in the years 1947–1973. Since May 1973 the library has been located in the modern building in Bielany. The publication includes numerous photographs from the collections of the library and the archives of its workers.

Das Buch ist eine Sammlung von Skizzen und Erinnerungen an die Geschichte der Universitätsbibliothek in Thorn und ihre MitarbeiterInnen in den Jahren 1971–1977. Der Autor der Erinnerungen, Buch- und Bibliothekshistoriker, war sechs Jahre lang Mitarbeiter der Universitätsbibliothek, wo er die Geheimnisse der Bibliothekskunst erkundete. Es ist auch eine Erzählung vom Alltag der BibliotheksmitarbeiterInnen, von ihren Gewohnheiten und Leidenschaften, aber auch von organisierten Veranstaltungen und Bällen. In der in zwei Teile gegliederten Publikation schilderte man das Leben in zwei Gebäuden der Universitätsbibliothek. Im ersten, alten Gebäude in der Bromberger Vorstadt wirkte die Bibliothek in den Jahren 1947–1973. Im zweiten, modernen und funktionalen Gemach in Bielany befindet sie sich seit Mai 1973 bis zum heutigen Tag. Die Veröffentlichung wird durch zahlreiche Fotografien aus den Beständen der Bibliothek und den Archiven ihrer MitarbeiterInnen ergänzt.
