Everyone can see what the library does, but is one aware of what tasks were involved and fall under the responsibility of a librarian? Based on the interviews conducted with librarians of the Reference Department of the Jagiellonian Library, the basic changes that have taken place in the librarian’s profession will be discussed. Review of old and current librarian work tools, as well as the scope of its duties will be compared. The aim of the work is to show the process of evolution of the librarian’s profession, with particular emphasis on changes that have occurred in the area of work tools and the manner of performed tasks.

The article is an attempt to present the process of revival of the Crimean Tatar ethnic minority’s national library in the multiethnic society of Crimea. The most important events from the over 25-year-long history of the Library are discussed alongside with a description of its current structure and functions, procedures and activities, including available services, library processes, as well as its educational, methodological, scientific and editorial activity.

W dobie cyfryzacji, znacząco zmieniła się rola współczesnej biblioteki. Przestała ona być jedynie miejscem, gdzie czytelnik może wypożyczyć książkę, bądź skorzystać z czytelni. Obecnie biblioteki stają się miejscem spotkań młodzieży w ramach prac grupowych, wydarzeń specjalnych oraz zapewniają dostęp do nowych technologii ułatwiających korzystanie ze zbiorów bibliotecznych. Autorzy monografii pt. Biblioteka na miarę: przestrzeń, zasoby, usługi omawiają w swojej pracy etapy powstawania oraz organizacji pracy nowoczesnej biblioteki. Korzystają przy tym z własnych wieloletnich doświadczeń oraz zmian, jakich byli uczestnikami na przestrzeni ostatnich lat.

In the era of digitalisation, the role of a modern library has significantly changed. It ceased to be just a place where reader can borrow a book or use the reading room as currently libraries are becoming meeting places for young people within the group work, special events venues, and provide access to new technologies that facilitate making use of the library collection. Authors of the monograph entitled “Library of standards: space, resources, services” discuss in their book the stages of creation and organisation of a modern library. They use their own years of experience and depict changes they were a part of in recent years.

The aim of the article is to present the variety of activities organized by A. Parczewski’s Educational Library in Kalisz during the time of COVID-19 from March 2020 to September 2021. The text contains examples of traditional and electronic services of the library within wide educational and cultural range aimed at different groups of users. The author described many actions including exhibitions, competitions and projects realized by the library in cooperation with some school libraries, Adam Mickiewicz University (UAM) / Faculty of Pedagogy and Fine Arts in Kalisz (WPA) and University of the Third Age. The author emphasized the great role of popularising the library’s actions which permeate from real world into virtual world through social media and the library’s website.

Celem artykułu jest prezentacja różnorodnych działań organizowanych przez Książnicę Pedagogiczną im. A. Parczewskiego w Kaliszu podczas pandemii od marca 2020 do września 2021 roku. Tekst zawiera przykłady tradycyjnych i elektronicznych usług bibliotecznych w ramach szerokiej oferty edukacyjno-kulturalnej, skierowanej do różnych grup użytkowników. Autorka opisała między innymi wystawy, konkursy i projekty realizowane przez Książnicę, także we współpracy z bibliotekami szkolnymi, wydziałem UAM/WPA w Kaliszu i Uniwersytetem Trzeciego Wieku. Podkreśliła wielką rolę popularyzowania działań biblioteki, które przenikają ze świata rzeczywistego w wirtualny poprzez media społecznościowe i stronę internetową Książnicy.

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted library activities. The article presents the functioning of the University of Lodz Library (BUŁ) during the pandemic. It presents the applied solutions and services adapted to the epidemiological situation, which allowed readers of the University of Lodz Library use its resources in a satisfactory and safe manner.

The paper discusses new social functions of libraries. Because information is increasing accessible online, libraries start switching from information provision to other kinds of services. Libraries are no longer the main source of scientific information for their users. Instead, they transform into meeting places and open spaces for local communities and professional circles, while at the same time pursuing social goals and promoting integration. The paper presents some of the activities libraries undertake to achieve such goals, focusing on the role of librarians in the process of social engagement of libraries.

W artykule zaprezentowano zagadnienie nowych funkcji społecznych bibliotek. Dotychczasowa koncentracja na usługach informacyjnych tych instytucji ewoluuje bowiem w obliczu zwiększającej się dostępności informacji w formie zdalnej. Biblioteki, które powoli przestają być głównym źródłem wiedzy naukowej oraz celem poszukiwań użytkowników, przeobrażają się w miejsca spotkań, miejsca otwarte dla lokalnych społeczności oraz środowisk profesjonalnych, realizujące także cele społeczne i integracyjne. W związku z tym przedstawiono przykłady działań realizujących te cele oraz wskazano na istotną rolę personelu bibliotecznego w procesie aktywizacji społecznej bibliotek.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie zmian zachodzących w ostatnich latach w strukturze i intensywności wypożyczeń międzybibliotecznych na przykładzie Biblioteki Głównej Uniwersytetu Ekonomicznego w Krakowie (BG UEK). Omówiono także rozwój organizacji pracy i zakresu usług świadczonych przez Wypożyczalnię Międzybiblioteczną (WM), w tym sposób dokumentacji i raportowania wyników jej działalności. Na podstawie danych z ostatnich lat przedstawiono zmiany liczby zamówień w podziale m.in. na typ czytelnika i formę materiałów bibliotecznych. Wyniki badań pokazały, że w badanym okresie miał miejsce spadek liczby zarówno wypożyczeń realizowanych przez WM, jak i wypożyczeń miejscowych w Wypożyczalni Ogólnej. Pogłębiona analiza dowodzi, że ta tendencja jest ujemnie skorelowana z rosnącą liczbą odwiedzin zbiorów elektronicznych. W kontekście zmian zachodzących w internetowej technologii udostępniania i pozyskiwania informacji rozwinięto wątek funkcji informacyjno-edukacyjnej w działalności przedstawianej agendy.

The aim of the article is to present the changes in the structure and the volume of interlibrary loan taking place in recent years, on the example of the Main Library of the Cracow University of Economics. The authors of the article also discuss the development of work organization and the range of services provided by Interlibrary Loan (ILL), including its documentation and reports. On the basis of the recent years’ data, changes in the number of loans were analysed, taking into consideration the user type and form of the loaned material. The analysis of the library statistics shows that during the period in question there was a decrease in the number of loans made through ILL, as well as local loans in the General Lending. An in-depth analysis shows that this trend is negatively correlated with the increasing number of visits to electronic databases. The informational and educational function of the presented department has been presented in the context of changes in online technology of data sharing and acquisition.

This article discusses the results of an online survey conducted in 2016 among university students in Cracow. The survey included students of the AGH University of Science and Technology and the Jagiellonian University. Its aim was to verify students’ expectations of academic libraries and also to try and get an idea of trends in the perception of the role and significance of libraries in university teaching. Some changes – for example a decrease in student interest in traditional library services in favour of free space development – have already been observed by the librarian community and have merely been confirmed by the findings of the survey.

W artykule omówiono wyniki ankiety internetowej, przeprowadzonej w 2016 roku, a skierowanej do studentów uczelni krakowskich. Ostatecznie badaniem objęto ankiety studentów dwóch uczelni: Akademii Górniczo-Hutniczej i Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego. Założeniem badania było sprawdzenie oczekiwań studenckich wobec bibliotek naukowych i próba uchwycenia tendencji w zakresie roli i znaczenia bibliotek w procesie dydaktycznym w szkole wyższej. Niektóre zmiany, na przykład mniejsze zainteresowanie tradycyjnymi usługami bibliotecznymi na rzecz swobodnego zagospodarowania przestrzeni przez studentów, były już obserwowane przez środowisko bibliotekarskie, chodziło o ich potwierdzenie opiniami bezpośrednio zainteresowanych.

W kontekście bieżących zmian i prognoz dla usługi wypożyczeń międzybibliotecznych w artykule została przedstawiona koncepcja oraz ocena wartości zamówień. Jest to jakościowe podejście do usługi wypożyczeń, oceniające zamówienia z użyciem m.in. metryk dostarczanych przez Ministerstwo Nauki i Szkolnictwa Wyższego. Użyte zostały cytowania z baz Web of Science i Scopus oraz analiza za pomocą współczynnika Impact Factor i punktów z Ujednoliconego wykazu czasopism naukowych. Bazą dla analizy są zamówienia międzybiblioteczne złożone przez studentów, doktorantów i pracowników Politechniki Poznańskiej w 2016 roku. Przeprowadzona ocena potwierdza wysoką wartość złożonych zamówień wśród wszystkich grup użytkowników oraz szerokie spektrum sprowadzanych publikacji.

In the context of the current situation and forecasts for the Interlibrary Loan service in Poland, the article presents the evaluation concept of the value of ILL orders. It is a qualitative approach to the ILL service, assessing orders using e. g. guidelines issued by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Citation from Web of Science and Scopus databases were used, as well as an analysis using the Impact Factor and journal values from the Unified List of Scientific Journals (by Ministry of Science and Higher Education). The basis for the analysis are interlibrary orders submitted by students, PhD students and employees of the Poznan University of Technology in 2016. The evaluation confirms the high value of these orders among all user groups and the wide range of publications types our patrons need.

Od początku istnienia idei Web 2.0 w bibliotekach, tj. od pierwszych lat XXI wieku, rozwój techniczny i technologiczny służył poprawie komunikacji bibliotekarzy i czytelników. Dzięki Web 2.0 czytelnicy wpływają na jakość i formę proponowanych im usług bibliotecznych i dlatego ważna jest obserwacja, ocena oraz dostosowanie potrzeb użytkowników do współczesnego modelu biblioteki. Autorka artykułu poddała analizie stan badań Web 2.0 w bibliotekach, w tym przede wszystkim sfery blogów, serwisów społecznościowych i innych aplikacji internetowych. Na podstawie analizy zagranicznej literatury fachowej autorka wskazała istotne tendencje, metody i wyniki badań zaobserwowane w bibliotekach różnych krajów świata, Europy i Polski.

From the moment the idea of Web 2.0 entered libraries, i.e. from the first years of the 21th century, technical and technological development has been used to improve the communication between librarians and readers. Owing to the idea of 2.0 Web, readers can influence the quality and the form of library services offered to them. Therefore, observation, evaluation and adaptation of users' needs to the contemporary model of libraries are important. The author of the article has analyzed the state of the research on Web 2.0 at libraries, mainly the sphere of blogs, social networking and other web applications. On the basis of the analysis of foreign specialist literature, the author presents some essential tendencies, methods and research conclusions observed in libraries of different countries of the world, Europe, and also Poland.
