The present work focuses on literary inspirations and artistic value of song lyrics included in the twelve-volume anthology of Stanisław Moniuszko’s songs known as the Home Songbook. The composer, who was born in the Minsk gubernia during the period of Russian partition, maintained strong bond with the Eastern frontier of Poland. The research conducted by the author of this study shows that Moniuszko used the texts created by 97 poets including many artists coming from the Eastern part of Poland (e.g. A. Mickiewicz, J. Czeczot, S. Witwicki, W. Syrokomla, J. Prusinowski etc.); in the collection of 364 songs and duos only 40 lyrics were written by foreign authors. Moniuszko’s work, with all their richness and diversity, played an important part in the cultivation of national identity of the Poles living under the Tsar’s rule; the Belarussians claim that a great deal of his songs have their roots in Belarusian folk culture.

The presented article is the first attempt of presentation of the vocal works of a little-known Polish composer Jerzy Gablenz (1888-1937). He composed 86 songs, written in the period from 1907 to 1928. To this day the majority of these songs have not been published. Only the single songs were published in collections, which are to be found in the National Library. The collection also includes the songs handwritten by the composer’s himself. In total, it is a little over 30% of Jerzy Gablenz’s vocal lyric poetry. The majority of his songs, rewritten by hand by the son Tomasz, are to be found in the records of individuals such as Jan Jarnicki, the director of Acte Préalable phonographic company, who does his best to record these still undiscovered works of Gablenz on CDs. The following article may become an inspiration for the musicologists and music theoreticians to conduct extensive studies upon the works of Jerzy Gablenz, who is a composer of not only songs, but also of symphonies, symphonic poems, a piano concerto or a sonata for cello and grand piano.

Prezentowany artykuł jest pierwszą próbą zaprezentowania twórczości wokalnej mało znanego polskiego kompozytora Jerzego Gablenza (1888-1937). W swoim dorobku pozostawił on 86 pieśni, pisanych w okresie od 1907 do 1928 roku. Większość tych utworów do dzisiaj nie doczekała się publikacji. Jedynie pojedyncze pieśni zostały wydane w zbiorach, znajdujących się w Bibliotece Narodowej. Księgozbiór ten zawiera również autografy pieśni kompozytora. W sumie jest to niewiele ponad 30% liryki wokalnej Jerzego Gablenza. Większość jego pieśni, przepisana ręcznie przez syna Tomasza, znajduje się w archiwach osób prywatnych, m.in. Jana Jarnickiego, dyrektora firmy fonograficznej Acte Préalable, który podejmuje wysiłki, aby tę wciąż nieodkrytą twórczość Gablenza zarejestrować na płytach CD. Niniejszy artykuł może stać się inspiracją dla muzykologów i teoretyków muzyki do szeroko zakrojonych studiów nad twórczością Jerzego Gablenza, który jest kompozytorem nie tylko pieśni, ale również symfonii, poematów symfonicznych, koncertu fortepianowego czy sonaty na wiolonczelę i fortepian.
