Artykuł jest poświęcony analizie nawiązań intertekstualnych, istniejących w opowiadaniu Piętno Gustawa Herlinga-Grudzińskiego, oraz relacji pomiędzy Piętnem a opowiadaniami Warłama Szałamowa, głownie – opowiadaniem Sherry Brandy. Przedmiotem rozważań są sposoby użycia przez Herlinga motywow i tematow, ktore najpierw pojawiły się właśnie w Sherry Brandy. Artykuł pokazuje zastosowanie tych motywow z perspektywy postmodernizmu i funkcjonowania literatury faktu w czasach totalnego panowania postmodernizmu.

The article is devoted to some features of the so-called literature of fact, to the specifi cation of the way citation functions in this type of literature, and to the analysis of intertextual references which exist in the short story Stigma by Gustaw Herling- Grudziński, and the relationship between the Stigma and the short stories by Warlam Shalamov, mostly – between the Stigma and the short story Cherry Brandy. The main subjects of the refl ection are ways in which Herling uses motives and themes, which have appeared for the fi rst time exactly in Sherry Brandy. The article shows the use of these motives from the perspective of postmodernism and all existence of literature of fact in times of total postmodernism domination.

While stating that the texts belong to nonfiction, the review questions the critical definitions of those texts as reports, suggesting further discussions on their genre.

Sołtysik’s story is devoted to the life and activity of Brother Albert Chmielowski. It is also a work about the phenomenon of holiness, which the author tries to diagnose and describe its distinctive features. Reading The Sign of Love allows us to say that the author of the work depended on the objective and material presentation of the figure of the Father of the Poor, so most of the descriptions and dialogues constructed by him were based on archival materials - documents, letters and opinions of Brother Gray or people directly knowing him. The storyline of this biographical setting is governed by the chronology of events, but the author first explores the themes of the Holy Life, which allow for a spiritual portrait of the hero, as well as answering questions about the source of his conversion, spiritual calling and holiness. Marek Sołtysik, developing the thesis that saints express their times and at the same time overtakes them, tries to convince readers that Brother Albert is also a man of our age, because his spiritual profile and apostolate indicate timeless and cross-generational values – faith, loveand human dignity.

Powieść Marka Sołtysika poświęcona jest życiu i działalności brata Alberta Chmielowskiego. Jest to także dzieło o fenomenie świętości, które autor próbuje zdiagnozować i opisać jego charakterystyczne cechy. Lektura Znaku Miłości pozwala na stwierdzenie, że jej twórcy zależało na obiektywnej, rzeczowej, a tym samym wiarygodnej prezentacji postaci Ojca Ubogich, dlatego większość tworzonych przez niego opisów i dialogów opierała się na materiałach archiwalnych – dokumentach, listach i opiniach Szarego Brata lub osób bezpośrednio go znających. Fabuła tej biograficznej opowieści motywowana jest chronologią wydarzeń, ale autor najpierw bada tematy Świętego Życia, które pozwalają ukazać duchowy portret bohatera, a także odpowiada na pytania o źródło jego nawrócenia, duchowego powołania i świętości. Marek Sołtysik, rozwijając tezę, że święci wyrażają swoje czasy, a zarazem te czasy wyprzedzają, próbuje przekonać czytelników, że Brat Albert jest również człowiekiem naszej epoki, gdyż jego profil duchowy i apostolstwo wskazują na wartości ponadczasowe i ponadpokoleniowe – wiarę, miłość, godność osoby ludzkiej.

In the interview Christopher Merrill explains the role of concrete details in war writing and war journalism. He reveals how drawing on details allows the writers to build the larger context for images of destruction and experiences in the war zones. Merrill recollects his memories from his trips around former Yugoslavia during the Balkan wars, from his journeys to Afghanistan, and other countries. He explains how to teach war writing by looking at good models. According to him only the challenging experience of the war zones lets the writer clarify if he wants to engage into war writing.

W rozmowie Christopher Merrill wyjaśnia, na czym polega szczególne znaczenie detalu w pisarstwie i dziennikarstwie wojennym. Wskazuje, jak dzięki pracy nad detalami pisarze opracowują szerszy kontekst dla obrazów zniszczenia i doświadczeń ze stref wojennych. Przywołuje swoje autobiograficzne doświadczenia z pobytu na Bałkanach w czasie wojny w byłej Jugosławii, z wyjazdu do Afganistanu i innych krajów. Wyjaśnia, na czym polega nauczanie pisarstwa wojennego w oparciu o dobre wzoru z przeszłości i współczesności. Podkreśla, że dopiero konfrontacja z realiami strefy wojennej decyduje o tym, czy czyimś wyborem stanie się pisarstwo wojenne.

Ryszard Kapuściński is one of the most prestigious contemporary authors in Latin America and Spain. How did he achieve this privileged position? Which specific features distinguish one reception from the other? And what is the current state of the issue, after the decease of the Polish author on January 23rd in 2007? To what extent has he influenced on Spanish-speaking reporters and writers? In the present article we would like to stress one of the keys to Kapuściński: the ability to generate controversy and to participate in the debates of his time.

Po raz pierwszy w literaturoznawstwie ukraińskim została przeanalizowana specyfika ukraińskiej recepcji reportaży J. Hugo-Badera opisujących postradziecką rzeczywistość na terenach Rosji, Ukrainy, Mołdawii i Naddniestrza. Dla odbiorców ukraińskich szczególnie ważne jest odczytywanie tych tekstów przez pryzmat własnego doświadczenia egzystencji po upadku sowieckiego kolosa. O ukraińskim sukcesie Białej gorączki świadczy to, iż została ona niewątpliwie mocnym bodźcem do przemyślenia przez Ukraińców fenomenu współczesnej Rosji i aktualizacji dyskusji o niezbędności przezwyciężenia tej zdeformowanej rzeczywistości delirium tremens. Osobna uwaga w artykule jest skupiona na tekstach-reakcjach dotyczących warsztatu językowego polskiego reportera oraz jego reporterskiej metody „przytulania się” do rozmówcy.

For the first time in Ukrainian literary studies the specificity of the Ukrainian reception of reportages by J. Hugo-Bader describing post-Soviet reality on the territories of Russia, Ukraine, Moldova and Transnistria is analyzed. For Ukrainian readers, it is particularly important to read these texts through the prism of their own experience of life after the collapse of the Soviet colossus. The Ukrainian success of White Fever is evidenced by the fact that it has undoubtedly been a powerful stimulus to rethink the phenomenon of modern Russia and to overcome this deformed reality of delirium tremens, in which post-communist freedom is a curse. In the article, special attention is paid to text-reactions, discussing Hugo-Bader’s linguistic skill and his reporter’s method of “hugging” the interlocutor in order to create texts showing not only the unknown reality, but also evoking empathy.

Książka przynależy do literatury faktu, jest to reportaż z miejsc jej pobytu oraz próba odtworzenia jej biografii, mimo niezachowania się wielu źródeł archiwalnych i skąpości przekazów pamiętnikarskich. Autorka analizuje osobowość Emilii Wojtyłowej na podstawie szczątków wypowiedzi i fotografii, opisując sylwetkę tej kobiety na tle jej najbliższego środowiska (Wadowice, Kraków).

The author analyses the content of the book by Milena Kindziuk (b. 1970), about Emilia Wojtylowa (1884-1929), the mother of Karol Wojtyla – John Paul II. It is a non-fiction book, a kind of reportage on the places where Emilia Wojtylowa lived. It is an attempt at reproducing her biography, in spite of the scarcity of archival sources and memoir materials. The author presents Emilia Wojtyla’s personality on the basis of very few incomplete statements, opinions, and photographs describing the figure of that woman in her closest milieu. (Wadowice, Cracow).
