Das Schaffen des österreichischen Novellisten Ferdinand von Saar widerspiegelt die für die Literatur des Realismus charakteristische Problematik der Verletzung der Ordnung, die sich Hugo Aust zufolge doppelt deuten lässt, nämlich wie Ordnung verletzt wird und wie sie selbst verletzt. Als aufmerksamer Beobachter und Teilnehmer der sich in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts vollziehenden politischen, ökonomischen, sozialen und kulturellen Umwandlungen konnte Saar in seinen Novellen die zu seinen Lebzeiten eintretenden Veränderungen subtil, zugleich aber auch suggestiv zeigen. Die durch rasch fortschreitende Industrialisierung und Urbanisierung erfolgte Verletzung in den städtischen Strukturen sowie in den zwischenmenschlichen Beziehungen schilderte der Autor direkt, indem er den Kontrast zwischen der Gegenwart und der Vergangenheit anwendete. Verschleiert, oft mithilfe der für den Realismus typischen symbolischen Ornamentik, wurde dagegen die sich verändernde Ordnung der Geschlechter gezeigt. Zu betonen ist die Tatsache, dass diese Ordnung durch die Wirkung des restriktiven Normensystems selbst eine Bedrohung für die Integrität des Individuums darstellen kann.

The literary output of the Austrian prose writer Ferdinand von Saar reflects the salient presence of the considerations on the disturbance of the existing order and on the order which can pose a threat to itself. Being an attentive observer and participant of the political, economic, social and cultural changes taking place in the second half of the 19th century, Saar in his novels managed to depict the changes in the world contemporary to him subtly but expressively. The disturbance of order in the urban structure and in interpersonal relations resulting from the sudden industrialization and progressing urbanization in Saar’s stories is shown directly by means of contrasting the past with the presence. What is, however, shown in an oblique way, e.g. with the use of the symbolic ornamentation typical for literary realism, is the changing order pertinent to the relations between men and women. In this respect it is worth mentioning that this order, due to its restrictive system of norms, can pose a threat to the integrity of an individual representing the existing social order.

Twórczość austriackiego nowelisty Ferdynanda von Saara wyraźnie odzwierciedla istotną dla nurtu realistycznego problematykę naruszania istniejącego porządku oraz porządku, który może stanowić zagrożenie dla samego siebie. Jako baczny obserwator i uczestnik dokonujących się w drugiej połowie XIX wieku przeobrażeń politycznych, ekonomicznych, społecznych i kulturowych Saar potrafił w sposób niezwykle subtelny, ale i sugestywny ukazać w swoich nowelach zachodzące we współczesnym mu świecie zmiany. Naruszenie w wyniku gwałtownej industrializacji i postępującej urbanizacji porządku w strukturze przestrzeni miejskiej, a także w relacjach międzyludzkich autor wykreował w sposób bezpośredni poprzez zastosowanie kontrastu między przeszłością a teraźniejszością. W sposób zawoalowany natomiast, niekiedy za pomocą typowej dla realizmu ornamentyki symbolicznej, ukazał zmieniający się porządek w relacjach międzypłciowych. Istotny w tym miejscu jest fakt, że porządek ten, poprzez działanie restrykcyjnego systemu norm, może zagrażać integralności jednostki reprezentującej istniejący ład społeczny.

The article deals with issues related to the mystery novel-a genre now forgotten but in 19th century one that was the most known genre of popular literature. The basis of the article is the analysis of the genre archetype-Mysteries of Paris-written by Eugene Sue. The author identifies the inspirations for this type of novel, its genre features (new hero models, new locations of events, an unusual way of presenting reality, the phenomenon of initiation). An analyis of the modern city is also included, as a new space of novel’s plot. The author also reflects on how mystery novels, even called revolutionary novels, influenced the society of the nineteenth century.

Artykuł podejmuje problematykę związaną z powieścią tajemnic – zapomnianym już dzisiaj gatunkiem, który zdominował rynek literacki w XIX wieku. Podstawą artykułu jest analiza archetypu gatunkowego, czyli Tajemnic Paryża Eugeniusza Sue. Autorka określa inspiracje tego typu powieściowego, jego cechy gatunkowe (nowi bohaterowie, nowe miejsca zdarzeń, nietypowy sposób prezentowania rzeczywistości, zjawisko inicjacji). Analizie poddane zostaje również nowoczesne miasto, które jest nową przestrzenią powieściowych zdarzeń. W tym artykule autorka zastanawia się również nad tym, jak powieści tajemnic, nazywane nawet powieściami rewolucyjnymi, oddziaływały na społeczeństwo XIX wieku.
