Project Activities of Animators and the Activation of Local Social Forces (the Case of Warmia and Mazury)

The specificity of the Warmia and Mazury region, a unique cultural mosaic paired with social problems, provided a space for building social engagement in the environment by involving the local community in socio-cultural activities. These actions resulted in changes to the living environment of individuals and social groups through their participation and engagement. The aim of the article is to present the results of research showing the views of animators regarding the impact of implemented social and cultural projects on stimulating social forces in small towns and villages of Warmia and Mazury. The research findings presented in the following section show the important aspects of this activity, starting from the sources/motives of creating projects and incorporating environmental resources into them, through cooperation with the local community and creating environmental leaders, to assessing the changes taking place as a result of the implemented projects. The presented research results allow for the conclusion that animators, through their project activities, contributed to permanent, positive changes in the local environment, awakening social forces (open and hidden), and to an increase in socio-cultural activity, both during and after the project activities.

Every family and every local environment has at its disposal strengths and abilities to support each other and to develop. Combining these attributes together brings benefits to both environments and makes it easier to face challenges and problems. In this particular case, support is perceived as a twoway, mutual process bringing benefits to both sides. The aim is to build, both in families and in the local community, attitudes leading to understanding, participating and being involved in the process and subjective treatment of all participants. This article aims to highlight the already existing solutions of family support in local environment and to seek the ones that haven’t been yet tapped into. The discussion shall focus on such issues as family support, the ability to participate in local community and different forms of family support available at particular social levels. The search for these opportunities, their conditioning and building an integrated family support system in local environment becomes one of the hardest challenges for the nearest future.

Każda rodzina i środowisko lokalne mają niezbędne siły i możliwości, aby się wspierać i rozwijać. Połączenie tych sił przynosi korzyści obu środowiskom wychowawczym, a także pozwala stawiać czoła istniejącym zagrożeniom i niepokojom. Wspieranie rozumiane jest tu jako proces dwustronny i wzajemny, czyli korzystny dla uczestniczących w nim stron. Zmierza też do budowania – zarówno wśród rodzin, jak i społeczności lokalnej – postaw rozumiejących, uczestniczących i zaangażowanych w proces, opartych na podmiotowym traktowaniu wszystkich uczestników działań. Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie już odkrytych i poszukiwanie tych jeszcze nieodkrytych możliwości i rozwiązań wspierających rodzinę w jej najbliższy otoczeniu. Rozważania dotyczyć będą następujących kategorii: wsparcie rodziny, zdolność do partycypacji w społeczności lokalnej oraz formy wsparcia rodziny na różnych poziomach społecznego funkcjonowania. Poszukiwanie i odkrywanie tych możliwości, ich uwarunkowań oraz budowanie zintegrowanego systemu wspierania rodzin w środowisku lokalnym staje się jednym z ważniejszych wyzwań najbliższej przyszło.

The following study shows the relation between local environment and the sense of identity of people in their late adulthood who live in the Polish and Czech part of Cieszyn Silesia. This study is a report of research conducted in Cieszyn and Czech Cieszyn in 2013. Quantity and quality strategies were complementary. Thequestionnaire, interview and qualitative data analysis were used. The results of the research depict the relations between local environment and the sense of identity among people in their late adulthood. A man builds their identity in relation to another man. The willingness to know yourself and others in a diverse way results in the awareness of individuality and uniqueness, and in consequence it determines the sense of individual identity.

W opracowaniu tym wskazuję na związek między środowiskiem lokalnym a poczuciem tożsamości osób w wieku późnej dorosłości mieszkających w polskiej i czeskiej części Śląska Cieszyńskiego. Niniejsze opracowanie jest komunikatem z badań przeprowadzonych w Cieszynie oraz Czeskim Cieszynie w 2013 roku. Strategia ilościowa i jakościowa zastosowane zostały jako komplementarne względem siebie. Posłużono się ankietą, wywiadem oraz analizą danych jakościowych. Wyniki przeprowadzonych badań wskazują, że istnieje związek między środowiskiem lokalnym a poczuciem tożsamości osób w wieku późnej dorosłości. Człowiek buduje swoją tożsamość w relacji z drugim człowiekiem. Chęć wynikająca z wielostronnego poznawania siebie oraz innych skutkuje świadomością odrębności i niepowtarzalności, co decyduje o poczuciu tożsamości jednostki.
