This paper presents a survey of empirical literature on the role of logistics in the agri-food sector. The main objective of the paper is to systemise and comprehensively describe the knowledge and information derived from a large number of sources about the specifics of food supply chains in terms of logistics, with particular emphasis on agricultural enterprises. Moreover, taking into account the increasing environmental, social and ethical demands concerning Agri-Food Supply Chains, the article formulates challenges for logistics and future trends in its development. In conclusion, it proposes a definition of logistics for the agri-food sector.

Przedstawiono agrobiznes jako specyficzny dział gospodarki narodowej. Zdefiniowano pojęcie agrologistyki, czyli działalności logistycznej dostosowanej do specyfiki gospodarki żywnościowej. Zaprezentowano wyniki badań dotyczące stanu logistyki w przedsiębiorstwach przemysłu rolno-spożywczego. Dokonano rozpoznania sytuacji w zakresie gospodarki zapasami i magazynowej, transportu, zarządzania informacją oraz gospodarki opakowaniami. Stwierdzono, że przemysł rolno-spożywczy napotyka problemy spowodowane rozproszeniem dostawców, stosuje zróżnicowane rozwiązania w zakresie zaopatrzenia, gospodarki zapasami, magazynowania, transportu, relacji z klientami i konsumentami czy też wykorzystania systemów wspomagania decyzji i sieci informatycznych. Relatywnie słabo wykorzystywane są nowoczesne technologie bazujące na falach radiowych, chętniej wykorzystywane są kody kreskowe. W relacjach z klientami/partnerami dominuje kontakt telefoniczny. Wśród przedsiębiorstw posiadających systemy informatyczne dominują programy związane z finansami, księgowością oraz pracą biurową.

Agribusiness has been presented as a specific branch of the national economy. The concept of agrologistics, that is logistic activity adapted to the specificity of the food economy, has been defined. The results of research on the state of logistics in agri-food industry enterprises are presented. The situation in the area of inventory management and warehouse management, transport, information management and packaging management was recognized. It was found that the agro-food industry faces problems caused by dispersal of suppliers, uses diverse solutions in the field of procurement, inventory management, storage, transport, customer and consumer relations, or the use of decision support systems and IT networks. Modern technologies based on radio waves are relatively poorly used, bar codes are more eagerly used. In relations with customers / partners, telephone contact prevails. Companies with information systems dominate related to finances, accounting and office work.
