The transition to adulthood in the perspective of selected theoretical frameworks and young Poles’ perception of adulthood. The subject of the analysis in the article is the reconstruction of the concepts of entering into the adulthood of young adult Poles; their needs and expectations towards their own adulthood. The empirical basis for deliberations is the results of the research which was achieved by realizing one of the tasks under the NCN project “Public Policies for Full Adulthood in Poland”. The aim of the project was to reconstruct the institutional and political framework of the process of achieving adulthood in contemporary Poland. Presentation of the results is preceded by ongoing discussion on understanding the category of entering adulthood as well as tendencies and determinants of the phenomenon of achieving adulthood in contemporary societies.

Przedmiotem analiz w artykule jest rekonstrukcja koncepcji wchodzenia w dorosłość młodych dorosłych Polaków; ich potrzeb i oczekiwań wobec własnej dorosłości. Empiryczną podstawę rozważań stanowią wyniki badań, które uzyskano realizując jedno z zadań w ramach projektu NCN „Polityki publiczne na rzecz pełnej dorosłości w Polsce”, którego celem było odtworzenie instytucjonalno-politycznych ram procesu osiągania dorosłości we współczesnej Polsce. Prezentację wyników poprzedza tocząca się dyskusja nad rozumieniem kategorii wchodzenia w dorosłość oraz tendencjami i uwarunkowaniami zjawiska osiągania dorosłości we współczesnych społeczeństwach.

The article aims to identify and describe phenomena associated with the important phase of the individual’s life, i.e. transition to adulthood. The authors of the article attempt to determine the causes and consequences of changes taking place in this period of life. Based on the Eurostat database (http://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/data/database) that illustrates the phenomena of „nesting”, entering the labour market, and starting a family (marriage, giving birth to the first child), significant transformations of the models of young people’s life are presented in the context of traditional markers of adulthood. The article refers to sociological concepts of youth, cultural and social changes. In particular, the concepts developed by Jeffrey Arnett, Ronald Inglehart and Ulrich Beek are useful for explaining the recorded trends.

Podstawowym celem artykułu jest wskazanie i opisanie zjawisk związanych z ważną fazą życia jednostki, tj. wchodzeniem w dorosłość (transition to adulthood). Autorzy artykułu podejmują próbę odpowiedzi na pytanie o przyczyny i konsekwencje zmian zachodzących w tym okresie życia. W oparciu o dane statystyczne bazy Eurostatu (http://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/data/database) obrazujące takie zjawiska jak: „gniazdownictwo”, wchodzenie na rynek pracy, zakładanie rodziny (małżeństwo, urodzenie pierwszego dziecka) przedstawione zostaną istotne przeobrażenia modeli życia młodych ludzi w kontekście tradycyjnych markerów dorosłości. W artykule wykorzystane zostaną socjologiczne koncepcje dotyczące młodzieży, zmian kulturowych i społecznych przede wszystkim Jefrreya Arnetta, Ronalda Ingleharta, Ulricha Becka do wyjaśnienia odnotowanych trendów.
