A vast richness and diversity of anthroponyms attributed to Maria, both the formal ones and of popular and folk provenance, is an inexpressible sign of unprecedented Marian cult in the Polish land. Even though the adoration of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a characteristic feature not only of the Polish Catholic Church, it is here that She is worshiped in a very special and unique way. This state is a consequence of the centuries-old influence of numerous determinants. For instance, among the many decisive factors one can point at the exceptionally strong, long-lasting relations between the national patriotic thought and religious strands, especially Marian ones. The best illustration of this indissoluble tie, very well known from history and literature, are the acts of commending the Polish nation to the Blessed Virgin Mary’s care. The aim of the article is to collect, analyse and attempt to classify Marian sacronyms present in the liturgical calendar (taking also into account their folk equivalents) and the ones characteristic of the likenesses of the Mother of God which can be found in the selected Pomeranian sanctuaries.
