The article is an attempt at providing an interpretation of Natalia Malek’s work Kord in the context of sculpture and materiality. Starting from outlining a definition of a sculpture as a situation and a meeting, the author tries to demonstrate how a poetical language stages the sculptural, departing from the tradition of concrete poetry in favour of openness and potentiality of a poem. The essential contexts for the following argument are both elements of the study of objects and the feminist approach to corporality, which stimulate thinking in terms of the matter and materiality and enable us to interpret Malek’s project as addressing dualisms of Western metaphysics, as well as calling for a different type of reading. The category of “material vision” (de Man) is for the author of the article a point of departure, however, in result, it turns out to be insufficient and gives way to the project of reading understood as a “sculptural situation”.

One of the most disputable issues related to the interpretation of Article 231 (1) of the Criminal Code currently in force, is the qualification of this type of a prohibited act as formal (with no consequences) or material (with consequences). It seems that the majority of the arguments support the opinion that an abuse of power should belong to the specific group of abstract exposures to danger, which are called offences of potential danger. The problem is, however, that the legislator has not clearly set out, nor provided for appropriate criteria for the court to asses, in a concrete case, a possibility to create a threat to legal interest.

In Rose Tremain’s The Road Home, the culture clash of the British and the East-Central European is portrayed through a complex symbolism centred on images of food, consumption and waste. This literary representation may shed light on British literary auto-images, as well as hetero-images of the Eastern European immigrant. The novel’s presentation of this culture shock is defined by the cultural historical and economic circumstances of the parties. Food and material provide the symbolic sphere where the relationship between Britain and East-Central Europe is characterized in terms of capitalist worldview as opposed to a post-communist existence. William Shakespeare’s Hamlet is the most important intertext for Tremain’s novel. Hamlet is obsessed with the vulnerability of material in light of the spiritual value attached to it in the form of human soul. Stephen Greenblatt’s ideas on food, waste and the Christian belief in divine existence residing in material objects - ideas that originate in early modern times - shed light on the motif of material and food in The Road Home. Seen through the symbolism of food and the idea of differing values being attached to matter, the narrative identity of Lev, the protagonist of Tremain’s work, experiences drastic change due to his encounter with the capitalist, British ‘other’.

The article in a subjective and at the same time synthetic way presents a point of view on several key problems related to the concept of creativity in relation to the medium understood as a material and the matter of a work of art. It contains the reflections and conclusions gained thanks to the combination of didactic activity at the Faculty of Architecture Wrocław University of Science and Technology with the independent artistic activity in the field of painting and sculpture. The basic assumption and purpose of the article is to emphasize the material factor in the artistic work and to demonstrate the great importance of the creativity as a process that has universal features for activities related to design. In the context of the discussed problems, fragments of aesthetic thought, selected phenomena in the area of art history and specific examples of own works as well as student works created during the sculpture classes at the Faculty of Architecture are quoted here.

The article shows literary and documentary presentations of the first years of building Nowa Huta in the context of the avant-garde gesture of blurring the traces of the past and attempting at establishing a completely new beginning. Another equally important goal is to show how Nowa Huta, a model city of socialist visions, was organized by the dialectic of materialization and dematerialization which governed both the rhetoric of architectural visions and descriptions of human – especially women’s – corporeality. The author combines idealized (and therefore immaterial) approach whose ideological senses are projected onto the architecture of a utopian city with the socialistic approach to the body as a precisely shaped form whose biological and generally material qualities are disciplined. The author describes a few attempts of bodily disobedience to the dictate of the form, exposing the gap between postulated construction plans and the reality of everyday life entangled in the materiality of architecture and the biological nature of the body.

Niniejszy artykuł traktuje o zmianie hierarchii wartości młodych ludzi związanej z ich dojrzewaniem. Skok w dorosłość to osiąganie dojrzałości płciowej, fizycznej, psychicznej, prawnej i głównie społecznej. Najmniejsza różnica, w opiniach licealistów i studentów, wystąpiła w wartościach allocentrycznych, prospołecznych i kulturalnych. Czynnikami determinującymi rozkład odpowiedzi były: wiek badanych, a więc etap osiągniętej dojrzałości oraz w przypadku licealistów, dodatkowo, profil ich klasy.

This article deals with changing the hierarchy of the values of young people related to their adolescence. Jump into adulthood is achieving sexual, physical, mental, legal and primarily social maturity. Reassessment of the hierarchy of values of young people related to their maturation, in the jump into adulthood, was examined on the example of selected social groups of high school and college students. The comparative analysis was carried out on the basis of research of young people’s attitudes to values conducted among 647 high school students in 2006 and PWSZ students in Płock (137 students in 2016). The findings of the research conducted have shown that allocentric and pro-social values are invariably prioritized among the value hierarchies irrespective of the age of the respondents. Achieving maturity revaluates the hierarchy of the remaining values researched. With the attainment of social maturity, work and education values dominate over those of pleasure important for high school students. It is interesting to conduct detailed analyses of relations to individual values changing with the age of the respondents. There has been a marked increase in the approval of civic, educational, family, work-related, student-related power over the high school students while a drop in ratings has occurred for the pleasurable and material values. The smallest difference, in the opinions of high school and college students, was in terms of allocentric, pro-social and cultural values. Factors determining the distribution of responses were: the age of the respondents, the stage of maturity while in the case of high school students it was additionally the profile of their class.
