The media serve as a tool used for transmitting information, as well as a centre of social life. There is no doubt that over time they also became one of the most dominant areas of activity for children and young people. The paper aims to present the role and importance of the media in the lives of every human being, with particular emphasis on the young generation. The author takes a closer look at the media as an educational environment shaping society’s behaviour and way of thinking. The paper also outlines several examples of the impact and consequences that the use of mass media has on health and social functioning.

Magdalena Bełza-Gajdzica, Zenon Gajdzica, The educational context of the Sejm protest by people with disabilities and their families. Interdisciplinary Contexts of Special Pedagogy, no. 25, Poznań 2019. Pp. 83-103. Adam Mickiewicz University Press. ISSN 2300-391X. DOI: https://doi.org/10.14746/ikps.2019.25.04 This paper presents an analysis of the social reception of a protest by people with disabilities and their families (and guardians), with a special focus on its educational dimension. The protest took place in the main corridor of the Sejm complex in Warsaw in April and May 2017. The first part of the paper comprises the essential characteristics of social protests. The second provides a brief overview of media information about the discussed protest. The recapitulation of this part specifies the conditions that give the protest an educational dimension. From there, the analysis is narrowed to the reception of knowledge pertaining to the situation of the needs of people with disabilities and their families and the change in attitudes to this social group. The third part comprises a presentation of the research results on this issue. The research was conducted with the use of diagnostic polling-the questionnaire technique, applied to a group of 200 people. The research results show that the protest was a kind of information campaign and that it contributed to some changes in respondents’ knowledge concerning people with disabilities and their families and the transformation of attitudes to their needs.

This article presents various types of narration safety measures adopted by the message sender and their linguistic indexes in contemporary media messages. The material under scrutiny were episodes of “Magazyn Kryminalny 997” from 1995-2010, hosted by Michał Fajbusiewicz. Of special interest are accounts of murders presented in “MK 997” as dramatizations. An analysis was carried out primarily of the verbal aspect of the dramatization i.e. verbal and style-related means used by the programme’s authors and the applied sender-receiver strategies. The sender plays an important role as he adopts safety measures at the time of providing information about the crime. A linguistic analysis leads to a conclusion that in “MK 997”, the sender formulates hypotheses and makes use of modality indexes with the aim of expressing various degrees of conviction in the statements (ranging from lack of knowledge to certainty). What is more, he uses judgemental modulators, forms of the conditional mood and conditional structures. Notably, the function of the safety measures adopted by the sender in his statements is to lend credibility to the message.

This article suggests an overview of the social brain, evaluation of local and global groups and the relationship between the individual, the brain and society. Emphasis is put on individual and collective identity and on the shaping of public opinion through the media and on examining future developments that will mold social trends and most importantly, whether it is possible to promote the evolution of a better society that is built on cooperation, reciprocity, altruism, understanding, attention, sensitivity, values and a high level of ethical functioning. The development of thinking, planning and new revelations have increased the need for engagement and connection with others. The human brain has developed self-interest thinking. Utilitarian calculations have become a part of humanity's engagements. Group relationships are essential for survival, care, concern and security. The product of the dichotomous existence of man and society: egoism versus cooperation and altruism. In order to survive as an individual in the group and as a group, the social brain developed and shaped thinking procedures of framing and instincts in patterns of feelings and emotions. The influencing messages of environmental sources which exist in the public sphere impact by pass the human brain through "mirror" nerves, stereotype thinking and collective and evolutionary memory, fulfilling basic motivation needs, creating belonging, love and appreciation. For instance, the media that uses these groups shared involvement feelings and collective identity to shape by means of "framing" the public opinion and way of thinking, and by that shape the perception of the reality.
