The subject of interest in the article are the handwritten newspapers of Teodor Ostrowski from 1782. The aim of the presented analyses was to examine the basic category of truth for the information (press) releas and to indicate its linguistic exponents. The analyses adopted a mediolinguistic perspective, referred to the semantics and pragmatics of truth combined with the field of press texts and to the concept of the „factual pact”. As typical exponents of credibility, reliability, striving for truth, they appear in the analyzed newspapers written, among others: lexem prawda and collocations with modal adjectives (prawda nieomylna, prawda niezawodna); lexemes wiadomość, nowina, pogłoska (used to express belief in the truthfulness of data and to vary the degree of reliability); the verb prawdzić się (used to denote the process of reaching the truth), lexemes and word constructions referring to the sources of obtained information.

In my article I discuss the characteristics of linguistic film discourse. I present the artistic significance and semantic meaning of the verbal dimension of a cinematographic work. While discussing the language in film I usually refer to the main tenets of mediolinguistics and I focus mostly on specific antinomies, tensions, and dialectic contradictions, which characterise the verbum sphere of the cinema. The antinomies relate to various aspects of language: systemic, textual, cognitive and cultural.

W artykule omawiam cechy językowego dyskursu filmowego. Pokazuję artystyczną wagę i semantyczne znaczenie warstwy werbalnej w dziele kinematograficznym. Omawiając specyfikę języka w filmie, wykorzystuję głównie założenia mediolingwistyki i koncentruję się przede wszystkim na specyficznych antynomiach, napięciach, dialektycznych sprzecznościach, które charakteryzują sferę verbum w kinie. Antynomie owe dotyczą różnych aspektów języka, zarówno tych systemowych, jak i tekstowych oraz kognitywno-kulturowych.

In the article I discuss the problem of contemporary Polish political communication. In its communicative dimension, the contemporary mediatized reality has become an area of functioning of polarized and linguistically and ideologically separate communities: media broadcasters with their offer and separate recipient groups (with different competencies). The polarity of worldview and its linguistic realizations is the most visible in the Polish official political discourse. In the media it is realized mostly by linguistic activities of purely ideological character. Such polarized political discourse of the media has led to ideologically charged ‘double vision’ of reality and its conceptualization ‘Us – Them’ being the most characteristic trait of the contemporary media communication in our country. The phenomena discussed above, typical for current political discourse, are worrying because they draw our attention to a linguistic – and seemingly historical – category: to newspeak.

The Internet as an Issue for Onomastic and Medioonomastic StudiesPrevious onomastic research into proper names in the Internet has typically been based on tradition- al and classic onomastic methodology. As a result, researchers have focused on the classification of names, the analysis of their structure, etymology, or function. In this paper, this traditional approach is compared with the new possibilities afforded by medioonomastics, a fast growing method which is combining the onomastic tradition and mediolinguistics. This paper provides only an outline and is only preliminary, although some analysis is also presented. It reviews onomastic techniques and the medioonomastic analysis of the names that function within the various types of texts in the Internet. Some examples are taken from Internet memes, as well as from Facebook profiles. One of these names is the Polish given name, Janusz, which is a brilliant example of the specific new functions, connotations and general semantic values generated by the Internet. This name has gained a new meaning: ‘a typical Polish man’, ‘unfashionable man’, ‘a redneck’. Another name is the title of the Facebook profile Chujowa Pani Domu, based on the TV-series Perfekcyjna Pani Domu, as a kind of semantic and pragmatic re-construction of the latter name. In the conclusion, the necessity of considering not only the type of object-named, but also the medium and especially the Internet, is emphasized. Such studies may offer a correct procedure for analysis which include the new medioonomastic methodology.
