Freedom of associating into political parties is inherently related to the issue of political party membership, through which this freedom is implemented in practice. In Poland, candidates for political party members, in addition to requirements established by the law in force, must fulfill a number of other conditions resulting from provisions of party statutes, which regulate matters related to political party membership in quite a meticulous way. In the article, the comparative method is used to verify whether or not in this aspect the practices of Polish parties differ adversely from statutory regulations passed by foreign political parties in selected countries which have undergone political transformation.
