In this article, I use Mieke Bal’ concept of wandering notions to analyse the conceptual apparatus that Zygmunt Bauman used in his works. In the first part of the text, I describe the most important features of his works which have connection with the practice of borrowing for the needs of the sociological discourse of the terms coming from other contexts: transdisciplinarity, connections with literature and art, engaged character. Then, I present the examples of the concepts of illustrative, propagation and foundation character which appear in his analyses. In the conclusion, I highlight the significance of categories redefined by him for social sciences and humanities development.

A distinctive feature of the processes occurring today in the lexical-semantic system is their dynamism. We often observe how a new word or a new meaning is born, the word is changed or neutralized by its stylistic marking. The condition for the appearance and consolidation of a new or actualized value is the relevance of the notion and the regular frequency in the media. The notion of “actualized word” corresponds to different lexemes that functioned in the language before, but underwent various kinds of changes of semantic, stylistic, comprehensible, evaluative nature. Some words known in the Russian language – дочка, летальный, чистый are frequent in social and political discourse, develop a new compatibility, which leads to the consolidation of a new meaning. This process can be accompanied by changes in the stylistic marking of the word, most often expressed in neutralizing of its colloquial and, more rarely, book coloring.

Отличительной чертой происходящих сегодня в лексико-семантической системе процессов является их динамизм. Мы нередко наблюдаем, как на наших глазах рождается новое слово или новое значение у известного слова, изменяется или нейтрализуется его стилистическая маркированность. Условием появления и закрепления нового или актуализированного значения является актуальность обозначаемого понятия и регулярная повторяемость в масс-медиа. Понятию «актуализированное слово» соответствуют разные лексемы, которые функционировали в языке ранее, но претерпели различного рода изменения семантического, стилистического, сочетаемостного, оценочного характера. Некоторые известные в русском языке слова – дочка, летальный, чистый, – частотные в общественно-политическом дискурсе, развивают новую сочетаемость, которая приводит к закреплению нового значения. Данный процесс может сопровождаться изменениями стилистической маркированности слова, чаще всего выражающейся в нейтрализации его разговорной и – реже – книжной окраски.
