The paper deals with a bibliometric analysis of a sample of the top law schools included in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022. An equal number of Western European and Central and Eastern European law schools have been analysed. The results show that both groups follow similar publication patterns. There is a clear tendency to publish in journals controlled by the authors’ universities. Citation rates in the sample are very low, and in line with what has already been found for humanities. There is a clear division between the multidisciplinary and transnational legal journals that are more international and less internationally recognised law reviews focusing on domestic issues. Law clearly follows its own publication pattern, and the East–West division is in this respect negligible: both groups perform equally well (or equally poorly) as far as the metrics indicate.

Meter as a simulacrum This text presents an attempt to conceptualize the poetics of versification in Kamil Brewiński’s poetic book Clubbing (Kraków 2013), with the background of the critical reception of the book, by the view given by the theory of simulation by Jean Baudrillard. The article is based on two unpublished conference speeches presented at conference on “Twenty First Century in Literature”, 2014) and “Poetry – Culture – Poetry. Contemporary Perspectives”, 2015). Some excerpts were used before in my doctoral dissertation (2015).

In the course of sales process of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems, it turns out that the standard system must be extended or changed (modified) according to specific customer’s requirements. Therefore, suppliers face the problem of determining the cost of additional works. Most methods of cost estimation bring satisfactory results only at the stage of pre-implementation analysis. However, suppliers need to know the estimated cost as early as at the stage of trade talks. During contract negotiations, they expect not only the information about the costs of works, but also about the risk of exceeding these costs or about the margin of safety. One method that gives more accurate results at the stage of trade talks is the method based on the ontology of implementation costs. This paper proposes modification of the method involving the use of fuzzy attributes, classes, instances and relations in the ontology. The result provides not only the information about the value of work, but also about the minimum and maximum expected cost, and the most likely range of costs. This solution allows suppliers to effectively negotiate the contract and increase the chances of successful completion of the project.

This article constitutes a contribution to the critique of the political economy of contemporary higher education. Its notes form, intended to open "windows" on the thorny issue of metrics permeating academia on both the local/national and global levels, facilitates a conceptualization of the academic law of value as a mechanism responsible for regulating the tempo and speed of academic labor in a higher education system subsumed under capital. First, it begins with a presentation of the Marxist approach to acceleration and measure. Second, it presents the academic law of value as a socially necessary impact/time. Third, it conceptualizes a figure of capital that operates in the contemporary global higher education system ("transnational association of capitals"). Fourth, it describes the conditions of operation of merchant capital within higher education and explores the close links of global university rankings, metadata providers, and the academic publishing industry. As a fifth and final point, the analysis turns to Central Eastern Europe and the case study of Poland to demonstrate that, to function properly, the academic law of value needs to be imposed by political means, that is, through policy reforms that establish and legitimize the sets of parameters and criteria for the evaluation of academic labor. In conclusion, the argument suggests that the domination of merchant capital over academic labor, resulting in the latter's ongoing and uncontrolled acceleration, cannot be overcome without addressing not so much the issue of private property but, first and foremost, the politically and socially defined metrics.

Za čtvrté, studie popisuje podmínky fungování kupeckého kapitálu v akademii a zkoumá úzké propojení globálních žebříčků univerzit, poskytovatelů metadat a akademického publikačního průmyslu.

Raný a pozdní Gellner: poznámky k metrice

This study focuses on the poetic work of František Gellner. Its objective is to confirm or refute the assumption that Gellner’s work can be divided into two distinctive periods. By means of statistical tests it establishes the relevance of the differences between early (1894–1906) and late (1910–1914) Gellner, concluding that within the observed parameters (the proportion of binary and trinary metres; iambs and trochees; fourfoot and five-foot iambs; monosyllabic and polysyllabic iambic incipits; verses with and without enjambement; strophic and non-strophic poems; four-verse and twoverse strophes; alternating and couplet rhymes), statistically significant differences are identified. The difference in his first work Po nás ať přijde potopa! (After us the Flood!) and its inclination towards 1890s (and Lumír) poetics was also established. Attention was also focused on the difference between Gellner’s poems included in his collections and those that remained in journal publication form (triple metres as a factor supporting the inclusion of a poem in a book publication), as well as the specific nature of the epic verses (more polysyllabic incipits, more enjambement). In several places the metric similarity was pointed out between specific poems and poems by other authors (Otokar Březina, Svatopluk Čech, Josef Svatopluk Machar, Jan Neruda and Jaroslav Vrchlický).

The work is an attempt to summarize achievements to date research on the demographic processes in the Lublin region in the pre-statistical era, i.e. by the end of the 19th century. The first census took place in the area in 1897. First, the publications of the 19th century authors were discussed. They were of synthetic nature and encompassed the entire borders of the Polish Kingdom. The granularity of the information, however, allows to consider some problems at the level of the village, district or province. The increased interest in the problems of demography occurred after World War II, which resulted in publications of the authors gathered at the Catholic University of Lublin. The research by Zygmunt Sułowski and Janina Gawrysiakowa proved to be particularly valuable. To summarize the article, the author points out that there is an urgent need to intensify the research on the demographic past of the Lublin region.

EN
Following on from work by Miloš Sedmidubský, this study deals with syllabic irregularity (heterogeneity) in Toman’s (and Vrchlický’s) verse. It focuses on Toman’s early work, analysing individual poems and collections (particularly Pohádky krve, Tales of Blood, 1898 and Torzo života, Torso of Life, 1902). The material base is made up of 350 poems, and the differences between individual sets are checked by means of statistical tests. Syllabic irregularity is expressed in terms of entropy.
