The objective of the article is presentation of people with hearing disability as a community who create an own culture and its characteristic. The etiology of forming the deaf community has been presented, as well as criteria of recognizing it as a language and cultural minority. A presentation of terms such as multiculturalism, interculturalism and references of assumptions of international education to social and cultural aspects of deaf people’s functioning in the environment of people with functional sense of hearing has been provided.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie społeczności osób z niepełnosprawnością narządu słuchu jako zbiorowości ludzi tworzących własną kulturę i jej charakterystyka. Przedstawione została etiologia powstawania społeczności Głuchych oraz kryteria uznania jej za mniejszość językowo-kulturową. Przedstawiono pojęcia wielokulturowości i międzykulturowości oraz odniesiono założenia edukacji międzykulturowej do społecznych i kulturowych aspektów funkcjonowania osób głuchych w otoczeniu osób ze sprawnym zmysłem słuchu.
