The value of Xin can find its origin in the Analects and other works by Confucius. Taking the perspectives from ethics and social psychology, pills  this research aims to probe possible psychological basis for the value of Xin and discuss it from two aspects extracted from the Analects, i.e. being trustworthy and being able to trust. However, among Confucian ethics, the significance of the value of Xin is somehow underestimated, especially the willingness and ability to trust others. The discussion of Confucian ethical value of Xin focuses on the fusion and fission processes of turning the value of Xin into moral trait and behaviour, and extends into the development of moral personality. The fusion process of incorporating credibility into self and the fission process of transmitting trust into otherness reflect the importance of social interaction and learning experience in forming moral personality, as Confucius used to emphasized in his teaching. The driving force of these processes and the connection between ethical values and moral personality is the courage to be trusting, as well as trusty. A moral personality characterized by the courage to trust echoes the courage to connect self to others, which is enhanced by the effectively formed and activated schema of trust. Bringing Confucian ethics in the light of personality psychology, this multidisciplinary study may provide a new perspective to examine moral behaviour by unveiling the psychological link between ethical values and moral personality, which is the courage to be connected to others, i.e. the courage to trust.

The article focuses on Franciszek Sawicki’s interpretation of Kant’s philosophy. “Moral Personality”, being the key notion in Sawicki’s works, was borrowed from Kant’s philosophy, and proof of this can be found in the analyses provided in the article “Das Problem der Persönlichkeit bei Kant” (1907) and in the book “Das Problem der Persönlichkeit und des Übermenschen” (1909). The article also addresses some problems concerning the reception of the ideas of Kant’s philosophy in Sawicki’s works, together with the critical assessment of some provisions of transcendental philosophy. The separation of the practical use of reason from its theoretical use, together with the difference between practical and theoretical meaning of the terms ‘personality’ and ‘person’, which are explicit in the works of Immanuel Kant, is somewhat blurred in Franciszek Sawicki’s writings. The aim of the article is to present this terminological confusion and to suggest hypothetical reasons for such misinterpretation.

Opracowanie dotyczy interpretacji filozofii Kanta dokonanej przez Franciszka Sawickiego. Zapożyczone zasadniczo z filozofii Kanta pojęcie „osobowości moralnej” jest kluczowe dla rozpraw Sawickiego. Świadczą o tym głównie analizy zawarte w artykule „Das Problem der Persönlichkeit bei Kant” (z 1907 roku) oraz w książce „Das Problem der Persönlichkeit und des Übermenschen” (z 1909 roku). W artykule podejmowane są zarówno zagadnienia związane z recepcją idei filozofii Kanta w pismach Sawickiego, jak również krytyka niektórych ustaleń filozofii transcendentalnej. Rozdzielenie praktycznego i teoretycznego użycia rozumu oraz odróżnienie praktycznego i teoretycznego znaczenie terminu „osobowość” i „osoba”, wyraźne w filozofii Kanta, w pismach Franciszka Sawickiego ulega pewnemu zatarciu. Celem artykułu jest pokazanie tego pomieszania znaczeń w pismach Sawickiego oraz sformułowanie hipotetycznych powodów, które zadecydowały o tej dezinterpretacji.

On the basis of the analytical review of sources base socio-pedagogical determinants of scientific clearance of the ideas of the moral personality upbringing in the native educational and training concepts and programs of the end of the XX – the beginning of the XXI century are theoretically grounded and actualized for modern education. For the aim of generalization of theoretical ideas and practical experience of the national pedagogical heritage the main approaches to the conceptualization of the idea of moral personality upbringing are identified and realized. The trends and stages of development of the national idea of the moral personality upbringing in the framework of the general theory of education with its description in the format of division into periods in chronological limits survey are described.With the purpose of arrangement and systematizing conceptual ideas about education of the moral person,determination, specialization of perspective educational ideas was conducted, the logic of their focus was outlined and educational and upbringing concepts of the end of the XX – the beginning of the XXI century are classified according to their public, ideological and pedagogical orientation. New educational strategies reflect new views on education: tendency of ideological-political influence that was popular in the end of the XX century is in the past; education became first of all cultural-historical value; gradually knowledge approaches are changed by educational; the main became subject-subject relations; the main principal orientations instead of classical formal general “harmonious development of the personality” became cultural growth and development of the personality; priorities are common to mankind values with orientation on national culture. The main characteristics that differ old educational models from present ones are: deideologization of education – independence from political doctrine, ideology and political pressure, personal orientation of education – dependence of goals, content and methods from needs and interest of pupils, democracy and humanism in relations between teacher and pupil.Modern concepts of education are based on the new scientific grounds, reflect new views on education as a cultural-historical value, priority in social education. Perspective pedagogical ideas of the moral personality upbringing, enabling its implementation into the native education under the new conditions are concretized.
