the Museum of Beskydy Frýdek Místek has been engaged in documentation of folk carving and Christmas crib making in Pobeskydí region for many years. The collection had already been started at the beginning of 1950s (the first exhibition took place in 1952) thanks to J. Vochala, curator of the Lach Museum in Frýdek Místek. The collection of folk carvings and Nativity scenes of the Museum of Beskydy Frýdek-Místek represents a unique demonstration of works of art created mainly from the first half of the 20th century up to now. After viewing this collection, one will find out that it shows a relatively accurate picture of the development of folk carving and Christmas crib making in the 20th century and at the beginning of the 21st century, not only in north-eastern Moravia but also in frontier regions of Beskydy. The collection includes works by woodcarvers from Moravian, Silesian, Polish and Slovakian parts of the Beskydy Mountains, and numbers 250 inventory items from almost 40 authors. The collection is now being closely and critically studied, evaluated, and individual works are classified. The examination will result in a catalogue of authors and carvings represented in the museum’s collection which will extend possibilities of study. It will also become the foundation for the creation of a new programme of collection leading to the systematic addition of folk carvings and Nativity scenes to the collection of the Museum of Beskydy Frýdek Místek.

The Forcart collection of Ptolemaic, Roman and Late Roman lamps from Fayum is today the largest single-collector Egyptian lychnological corpus owned by a Swiss public institution, the Geneva Museum of Art and History, which acquired it in 1923. The importance of the 145 lamps in this collection is twofold. Firstly, all the artifacts were offered to Max Kurt Forcart by the different directors of excavations operating legally in the Fayum area during the first two decades of the 20th century, giving us a clear—even if generic—finding area, contrary to collections purchased from the various antiquaries. And secondly, even if incomplete compared to the richness and diversity of the Fayum workshops, the chronological and typological range it covers makes it a perfect companion to the only two published and illustrated lamp catalogs of regular excavations made in the area: the early 1900s work of W.M.F. Petrie at Ehnasya and the later investigations by the University of Michigan team at Karanis. Also highlighted are the unique Fayum fashions and approaches to the importation, adoption or rejection of common types found in the Nile Delta, as well as the emergence of typically microregional subtypes as discussed by John W. Hayes.

The story of a painting by Carl Friedrich Schulz (1796–1866) from the collection of the Museum of Post and Telecommunication in Wroclaw is discussed. The work has not as yet been presented to the public; neither has it been the object of researchers’ interest. Until the moment when this paper was written it had remained unstudied as for its provenance and had not featured in any catalogue of artworks of Polish artistic collections. The paper is thus the first presentation of Schulz’s painting being the result of the investigation of Museum’s curators aiming at identifying the provenance and attribution of the previously unknown work.

This paper presents the results of an analysis of beaded artwork from the collection of the Czech ethnographer František Řehoř. The collection is located in the Department of Ethnography of the National Museum in Prague and is currently being analyzed by Czech ethnologists in cooperation with Ukrainian experts. This collection provides an important source of knowledge for studying the first stage of the tradition of beaded decoration in Ukrainian folk costume (late 18th to late 19th century) of eastern Galicia and Bukovina, which were part of the Habsburg Monarchy at that time. The analysis of artifacts from this collection expands the knowledge of technological, typological, artistic and stylistic features of traditional Ukrainian beadwork within these regions during the 19th century.

Coinciding with a lively topical debate on the presence of textiles, fabrics, clothes, and fashion accessories in museum collections and activities, the paper aims at showing a wide range of projects and initiatives undertaken in recent years by Polish museums. The presented analyses and conclusions are based on the results of the national survey on museum operations in 2019–2021 conducted by the paper’s Authors jointly with the National Institute for Museums and Public Collections in the first quarter of 2022, and allowing to review this phenomenon nationally. The survey’s goal was to consider various formats of the presence of such objects and references to them in museums, both those of a more traditional character (e.g., including fashion-related exhibits in the museum collection, their conservation, studying, displaying in exhibitions), as well as of a newer character (e.g., cooperation with clothing companies and fashion designers, holding fashion shows, workshops, and fashion-related contests).
