The objective of this study is to examine the influenceof life-stories narrative intervention programs on the optimistic approach towards life of adolescents with learning disabilities (LD) and attention deficitdisorders (ADHD). Changes in the optimistic approach towards life of adolescents with LD and ADHD who took part in an intervention program were compared pre-and post-program and to ordinary high school graduates who did not participate in the program. The findingsindicate a significantimprovement in the level of optimism pre- and post- intervention program. In addition, higher levels of optimistic approach towards life in the general index and relating to graduates’ level of optimism in situations of uncertainties were reported among graduates with LD and ADHD, compared with regular high school graduates. No differences were found in other aspects of the questionnaires. Results call for further research on additional protective variables, and on the effectiveness of the intervention program in both special education and regular high schools.

The study introduces resources of folk origin, which has almost not been used by the ethnology so far and which can bring valuable evidences about the lived form of folk dance culture. The development of those resources relates to the period when a kind of well-read persons or amateur writers came from village society, who paid their attention to farmers´ economic matters; they were interested in the expressions of social and cultural life, as well as in patriotic events in the second half of the 19th century. A special attention is paid here to the description of dance parties as a part of the events of that period. The interpretation of these resources requires combining of different methods and approaches; the ethnochoreology is supported here both by the attitude of so-called new cultural history focused on the study of mentalities, and by narrative approach. The source material is understood as life stories that simultaneously express the situations and contexts within which they were produced. The following issues constitute the basic dilemmas of interpretation: whether the structure of what is interpreted (text) or its function (context) should be accentuated, if one should focus on content or form, whether one should proceed on a part or a whole, and if the interpretation should be aimed at an individual or culture.

The aim of this series of articles is to identify and characterize the main linguistic and struc-tural features of medical case reports in the field of psychiatry and psychology. The series of papers is divided into to two parts: theoretical and empirical. The main purpose of the first part is to present the theoretical background of the discourse of psychiatry and psychology as well as the characteristics of case reports of these disciplines. In the paper, the present authors also demonstrate the structure of the case reporting of psychiatry and psychology, including the instruction for authors given by the American Psychological Association. Also, the narrative approach, the patient’s stories appearing in these texts as well as one of the main elements of the case reports, i.e. ‘case conceptualization’ are discussed. The second part will be an empirical one. The main research question is whether the case reports of psychiatry and psychology are typical representatives of the microgenre or whether they are different with respect to particular levels of the texts. The case reports of psychiatry and psychology will be compared with the case reports of clinical and surgical disciplines, for instance from cardiology or otorhinolaryngology.

The aim of this series of articles is to identify and characterize the main linguistic and structural features of medical case reports in the field of psychiatry and psychology. The series is divided into to two parts: theoretical and empirical. The main purpose of the first part is to present the theoretical background of the discourse of psychiatry and psychology, including the characteristics of case reports of these disciplines and instructions for authors for preparing this type of text, as well as the narrative approach, case conceptualization etc. The second part is an empirical one. The main research question is whether the case reports of psychiatry and psychology are typical representatives of the microgenre or whether they are different with respect to particular levels of the texts. The present authors focus on the structure of case reports and their rhetorical character – the way of presenting particular information and its linguistic representation. The psychiatric and psychological case reports will be compared with the case reports from clinical and surgical disciplines, for instance cardiology or otorhinolaryngology. The study presents both differences and similarities between the two types of case reports, which are illustrated with representative examples from the research material.

The paper is a dialogue between a conservation architect who works on medieval churches and an analytic aesthetician interested in the principles underlying restoration and conservation. The focus of the debate is the explanatory role of narrative in understanding and justifying elective changes to historic buildings. For the architect this is a fruitful model and offers a basis for a genuinely new approach to a philosophy of conservation. The philosopher, however, has been sceptical about appeals to narrative in other contexts (for example, self-identity), and rehearses some reasons for this scepticism. The dialogue explores the pros and cons of the narrative approach to conservation and seeks to forge a compromise that acknowledges concerns about inflated claims for narrative while pursuing the merits of this particular application.

The text is dedicated to a reflection on creative moments of the entrepreneurial organization. It presents the practical and theoretical possibilities that a historiographic approach to organization theory can offer, enabling a holistic understanding of the creation of an enterprise in its natural context. In the theoretical part we approach the idea of entrepreneurship as creativity, supplementing it with a reflection on the function of entrepreneurial stories in science and practice of entrepreneurship. Then, we portray the results of an ethnographic study of local entrepreneurship in Wielkopolska, focusing on the creation narratives. Thus obtained a comprehensive picture of entrepreneurial activities, leads us to formulate the postulate of a unique and important role that this type of research plays both in the scientific reflection, as well as in creative entrepreneurial activity.
